Box Score READING, Pa. -- Stevenson women's volleyball held off several rallies from Alvernia in a straight set road victory on Wednesday night.
Stevenson (9-2, 2-1) racked up its fifth sweep of the season behind set wins of 26-24, 25-16 and 25-18. Alvernia (4-7, 0-3) used several runs, particularly in the first and third sets, as its three-match winning streak came to an end.
- After a back and forth start, Stevenson rattled off the seven straight points, prompting an Alvernia timeout as the Mustangs rolled ahead at 11-7. Sophia Eckerd, Rileigh Kimball and Sarah Straub all smacked down kills in the opening run.
- The hosts responded out of the stoppage, climbing back to within 15-11 before Shannon Baily placed down an attack from the right side for the Mustangs.
- Two straight kills for Alvernia made it 16-13 as Stevenson answered with a three-point flurry, bookended by kills from Piper Connors and Eckerd.
- The earlier stretch was part of a larger 5-1 Stevenson run, ended with a service ace from Connors, pushing the Mustangs to a 22-14 margin prior to another Alvernia timeout.
- A 9-2 Alvernia run closed the margin of the opening set to 24-23 as Stevenson called for a timeout. The Golden Wolves, which held off set point for five consecutive rallies, tied the set at 24 out of the timeout.
- Consecutive kills from Darian Dildy handed Stevenson an extended 26-24 victory in the first set.
- Neither side could generate much separation in the early moments of the second set before Stevenson jumped ahead 6-3 with kills from Haley Hoover and Kimball.
- An Emily Pellini ace lifted the Mustangs to an 11-7 edge, which the Mustangs later expanded to 13-7.
- Stevenson remained in control, charging ahead 19-10 off kills from Connors and Straub. Another stretch, this time capped with kills from Baily and Connors forced an Alvernia timeout with Stevenson leading 23-13.
- The Mustangs closed out the frame with a 25-16 set win after an Alvernia attack error.
- Stevenson raced ahead to a 7-3 edge in the third set until Alvernia chipped away to tie the frame at 10.
- The Golden Wolves took the lead as Stevenson looked to climb back in front. The score remained close as both sides continued to trade points, with Alvernia hanging on to the narrow advantage.
- Connors placed down two clutch aces at the service line, moving Stevenson back in front at 20-18.
- Scoring the final eight points, Stevenson battled back for the set win and sweep. Mackenzie Blevins had two service aces late to cap the match for the Mustangs.
- Stevenson showed great balance through the opening set as Eckerd, Baily and Kimball posted four kills each. In total, five Mustangs registered at least two kills in the first set.
- Baily hit a blistering .571 in the first set for the Mustangs, finishing with a team-high 11 kills and a .304 hitting percentage on the night.
- A 7-1 Stevenson run in the second set doubled the visitors' advantage to 16-8 before an Alvernia timeout. The Mustangs hit .272 as a team through the opening two frames.
- Stevenson got it done at the service line in the third set, dropping down six aces, including five in the match-clinching surge.
- Blevins fired in at least four aces for the fourth time this season and second consecutive match.
