No. 10 Aggies Pull Away From Mustangs in Second Half

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - No. 10 Delaware Valley shutout visiting Stevenson University in the second half as it pulled away for a 34-17 Middle Atlantic Conference football victory Saturday afternoon at James Work Memorial Stadium.

  • After Delaware Valley (3-0, 1-0 MAC) went three-and-out on its opening drive, Stevenson (0-3, 0-1) fumbled on its first play of the game and the Aggies recovered at the Mustang 24.
  • The hosts took a 7-0 lead following a 17-yard touchdown completion at the 11:13 mark.
  • Stevenson marched 69 yards from the Aggie 30 on its next drive, with Ryan Sedgwick completing two passes to Darian Littlejohn for 50 yards.
  • The Mustangs had two chances to run it in from the Aggie 1, but were turned back both times and Stevenson turned it over on downs at the 6:16 mark.

  • Delaware Valley completed a 14-play, 99-yard drive with a one-yard run 1:07 into the quarter to go up 13-0 after the PAT kick was missed.
  • Littlejohn returned the ensuing kickoff 79 yards from the Stevenson 11 to the Aggie 10 before being brought down.
  • On a drive extended by a roughing the passer call on 3rd-and-goal, a two-yard completion from Sedgwick to Steven Smothers with 11:59 on the clock pulled the Mustangs within 13-7.
  • The Aggies responded with a seven-play, 79-yard drive capped by a six-yard TD completion to go up 19-7 8:15 before halftime after another PAT kick was missed.
  • Stevenson used a 63-yard touchdown completion from running back Kevin Joppy to Littlejohn on its next drive to pull within 19-14 with 6:37 on the clock.
  • After the Mustang defense slowed DelVal at midfield on its next drive, Stevenson went 60 yards on 10 plays and a 31-yard field goal by Brody Campbell with 41 seconds left before halftime to make it 19-17 at the break.

  • A bad snap on a Stevenson punt attempt on its second drive of the second half allowed a DelVal safety with 7:16 on the clock.
  • The Aggies worked their way down to the Mustang 22 on the following drive but the hosts failed to convert 4th-and-2 after a pass attempt was knocked away by Tristan Dye.
  • Another bad snap by the Mustangs resulted in a three-yard punt from their own 20 and a 19-yard return but DelVal at the Mustang 4.
  • A three-yard run on second down increased the Aggie advantage to 28-17 with 2:27 on the clock.

  • Delaware Valley got down to the Mustang 32 before a Garston Banks forced fumble was recovered by Jacob Baytoff at the 26 and returned 21 yards to the 47.
  • The hosts' final touchdown drive started near midfield and an eight-play, 45-yard drive was capped by a 20-yard TD completion on 4th-and-17 with 1:40 to go.

  • Delaware Valley outgained Stevenson 391-232 including 118-44 on the ground.
  • Sedgwick finished 14-27 passing for 125 yards.  Littlejohn, Smothers and Cory Jones each had three catches.
  • Joppy carried 15 times for 37 yards in addition to his touchdown toss.
  • Tyson Blakeney had a team-high nine tackles while Sean Sullivan finished with eight.
  • Jason Scott and Josh Siegenthaler each recorded six tackles.

  • Stevenson returns to Mustang Stadium next Saturday, September 25, when it hosts Lycoming in a noon MAC kickoff.
