Box Score

REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson men's ice hockey sophomore Ryan Kenny posted 28 saves while the second-seeded Mustangs netted two power play goals en route to a 4-1 victory over third-seeded Wilkes in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) semifinals Friday evening at Reisterstown Sportsplex.

  • After 13 whistles in the opening 6:15 of the contest, the Mustangs (12-2-1) earned the game's first power play opportunity after an interference penalty.
  • The hosts needed just eight seconds before first year, Mac Lowry, found the back of the net on an assist from senior Aaron Murray.
  • Lowry won the offensive zone face-off back to Murray before receiving the puck back and beating goaltender, Michael Paterson-Jones, inside the near post.
  • The Colonels (7-4-0) went on their first power play at the 9:46 mark but Kenny stopped all three shots he faced while also getting a blocked shot from first year, Seth Bergeron.
  • Stevenson was sent back to the penalty box, with Wilkes cashing in just 11 seconds into the power play, tying the game at the 13:59 mark.
  • Late in the period, the Mustangs turned the puck over in their own defensive zone with Phil Erickson nearly taking advantage as his backhander hit off the post.

  • The Mustangs took an early penalty to open the period yet Kenny knocked aside both shots on net.
  • Forty seconds after the Colonels fired a shot off the crossbar, the visitors were sent to the penalty box for the second time.
  • After Stevenson could not get its power play set up in the offensive zone on the first three opportunities, first year, Blake Colman found the back of the net with 32 seconds left on the man advantage.
  • Junior Chad Watt fired a shot wide, with the puck wrapping around the boards to Colman at the point. Colman played the puck to senior Houston Wilson before getting it back for a shot at the point.

  • Just like the second period, the Mustangs were whistled for a penalty in the opening minute of the frame.
  • Donald Flynn hit the pipe for the second time in the game on the power play while Kenny made a pair of saves.
  • At the 5:39 mark, the Colonels were called for a major penalty, giving the Mustangs a five-minute power play.
  • The hosts fired five shots on net during the man advantage but Paterson-Jones kept the visitors deficit at just one.
  • With 6:05 remaining, sophomore Austin Master pushed Stevenson's lead to two after first year, Evan Beers carried the puck through the neutral zone before Master skated onto the loose puck.
  • Master beat Paterson-Jones one-on-one for the score.
  • With 2:22 left in regulation, the Colonels pulled Paterson-Jones for an extra skater but 21 seconds later, Watt scored on the empty net.
  • The Mustangs had to kill off a penalty for the remainder of the game, with Wilkes having a six-on-four advantage for the final 50 seconds.
  • Kenny stopped both shot attempts by the Colonels in the closing seconds.

  • Wilkes outshot Stevenson, 29-23, with the Mustangs holding a, 10-9, edge in the third period.
  • The Mustangs finished 2-for-3 on the power play and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill.
  • Stevenson, who is unbeaten in its last 10 games, will be making its first UCHC title game appearance, avenging a semifinal loss to Wilkes a season ago.
  • Despite the shortened season, the Mustangs 12 wins ranks second in five seasons
  • Colman has scored in four consecutive games while extending his point streak to seven games.
  • Lowry netted his team leading 10th goal of the season while Master pushed his point streak to seven.

  • Stevenson will face the winner of top-seeded Utica and fourth-seeded Elmira in the UCHC Championship game. Date and time are TBD.
