Mustangs Run Win Streak to Four With 4-2 Victory at Neumann

ASTON, Pa. - The Stevenson men's ice hockey team scored three second period goals, including the first career goal by first year Seth Bergeron, as the Mustangs extended their four games with a, 4-2, United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) victory over Neumann Saturday evening at IceWorks Skating Complex.

  • After the two teams traded the opening shots, the Knights (1-3-2, 1-3-2 UCHC) earned the game's first power play midway through the period.
  • The hosts needed 47 seconds of the man-advantage before taking a 1-0 lead at the 11:04 mark.
  • Neumann outshot the Mustangs, 12-9, in the opening period, with Kyle Pantalone stopping all nine shots.

  • Just 1:17 into the middle frame, senior Matt Cappucci netted an a goal on a rebound that bounced out to the point.
  • Both sophomore Austin Master and first year Blake Colman recorded shots on net before the second save bounced out to Cappucci at the left point.
  • Bergeron gave the Mustangs (6-2-0, 3-1-0 UCHC) the lead just 28 seconds later as he blasted a shot from the point after junior Luke Benitez won the face-off back.
  • Stevenson went on the penalty kill for the second time, with the Knights taking advantage once again, tying the game at the 10:54 mark.
  • Neumann's third power play opportunity was cut short after the hosts went into the penalty box just 41 seconds into its man-advantage.
  • The Mustangs had 1:19 of a man-advantage, with junior Chad Watt scoring with 20 seconds left on the power play. First year Anthony Starzi and Bergeron picked up the assists.
  • Stevenson went right back on the power play after a delayed roughing penalty against the Knights but Pantalone made three saves while a shot by senior Houston Wilson hit off the pipe.
  • On the defensive end, sophomore Ryan Kenny made three saves to end the period.

  • After the Knights recorded the first shot to start the third period, the Mustangs recorded the next 11 shots on net.
  • Each team had a power play opportunity with Stevenson recording four shots on its power play as well as a shorthanded shot.
  • Neumann pulled Pantalone in favor of an extra skater but Watt scored all the way from the Mustangs defensive endline to push the Mustangs lead to two with 26 seconds remaining.

  • Stevenson outshot Neuamnn, 39-26, including 17-4 in the third period.
  • The Mustangs were 1-for-3 on the power play while the Knights went 2-for-4.
  • Watt recorded his second career two-goal game and fourth career multi-point game.
  • Kenny finished with 24 saves in net, for his 20th career win.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Wednesday, March 17 when the Mustangs host a UCHC and Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) contest versus Lebanon Valley beginning at 1:00 p.m.
