Halverson Nets First Career Goal in 6-2 Victory Over Neumann

REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson men's ice hockey first year Caden Halverson netted his first career goal as six different Mustangs found the back of the net twice in a 6-2 victory over Neumann in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) Friday evening at Reisterstown Sportsplex.

  • The duo of first years Anthony Starzi and classmate Mac Lowry connected for the third time this season as Lowry found a wide open Starzi in front of the net to give the hosts an early lead at the 4:05 mark.
  • Linemate and sophomore Austin Master picked up the secondary assist.
  • At the 13:24 mark, the Mustangs (6-2-0, 3-1-0 UCHC) were whistled for the first penalty of the game before going down two players for 18 seconds.
  • Just five seconds after the first penalty expired, the Knights got back within one as Clay Boyd scored in close after a shot from the point was deflected in front and to the stick of Boyd.
  • With 34.1 seconds remaining in the opening period, Stevenson was sent back to the box for the third time.
  • Neumann recorded a shot in the closing seconds but it was knocked aside by sophomore Ryan Kenny.

  • After killing off the last 1:26 of a penalty, the Mustangs went on the power play at the 2:11 mark, with each team recording a shot.
  • Lowry found the back of the net for the second time with 8:50 remaining after skating into the offensive zone and wristing a shot past Cal Ambrose.
  • First year Evan Beers and senior Martino Picariello picked the assists.
  • The Mustangs pushed their lead to 4-1 with 5:42 left in the period as senior Aaron Murray scored a four-on-four goal, getting helpers from Master and junior Ryan Patrick.

  • Neumann (1-2-2, 1-2-2 UCHC) found the back of the net at the 4:17 mark before going on the penalty kill for a bench minor.
  • Just 1:19 into the power play, Patrick found the back of the net with Master and Murray dishing out the assists.
  • First year Eric Olson rounded out the scoring with an empty net goal with 2:37 left in regulation. First year Brendan Rylott and Picariello had the helpers.

  • Stevenson outshot Neumann, 34-28, including 23-17 through the first two periods.
  • The Mustangs finished 1-for-6 on the power play and 6-for-7 on the penalty kill.
  • It is the fourth straight win for the Mustangs in the series, with Stevenson leading, 6-4-0.
  • Lowry finished with one goal and one assist and has seven points over his last three games.
  • Master finished with a career-high three assists.
  • Kenny finished with 26 saves in net for his third straight win.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, March 13 when the Mustangs travel to Neumann for a UCHC contest beginning at 4:00 p.m.
