Mustangs Score Final 10 Points in 78-69 Win At Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. - The Stevenson University men's basketball team scored the final 10 points of the game to top Lebanon Valley 78-69 in MAC Commonwealth action Friday night at Sorrentino Gymnasium.  The win was the regular season finale for the Mustangs.

  • Lebanon Valley (8-2, 7-2) staked itself to an early 12-4 lead just over six minutes into the contest.
  • A 7-0 spurt by Stevenson (4-6, 4-6) capped by a putback by Jalin Jordan pulled the Mustangs within one, 12-11, at the 10:43 mark.
  • Back-to-back threes by McKale Williams turned a 22-19 deficit into a 25-22 lead for the guests with 4:38 remaining before intermission.
  • A pair of Evan Joseph free throws extended the lead to five with 3:49 left.
  • The Dutchmen scored seven straight points to take a 29-27 lead with 2:35 on the clock.
  • The lead changed hands four times the rest of the stanza, with LVC taking a 34-33 lead into the break.

  • The Mustangs opened the second half on a 12-4 run to go up seven, 45-38, with 16:48 remaining on a putback by Bo Wesley.
  • Lebanon Valley chipped away and cut the deficit to two, 52-50, with 9:57 on the clock.
  • Baskets by Merlon Devine and Wesley pushed the Stevenson advantage back to six, 56-50, with just under nine minutes to go.
  • LVC tied the game 56-56 before five straight points by Jordan, including a three with 6:50 left put the Mustangs in front 61-56.
  • The Dutchmen took a 62-61 lead with 5:05 to go, but a Jordan basket 15 seconds later put Stevenson back in front.
  • The lead changed hands three more times before two Joseph free throws put Stevenson up 68-66 with 3:27 on the clock.
  • Lebanon Valley went up 69-68 on a conventional three-point play by Justin Baker with 2:20 remaining.
  • Williams made 1-of-2 at the line with 2:10 left to tie the game 69-69.
  • After an empty LVC possession that saw a block by Norman Hughes, Hughes was fouled on the other end and sank a pair at the line with 1:28 to go to give Stevenson the lead for good.
  • A Dutchmen turnover, followed by a Hughes three, made it 74-69 with 39 ticks on the clock.
  • Joseph went 4-4 at the free throw line the rest of the way to seal the win.

  • Jordan and Williams paced five Mustangs in double figures with 15 points apiece.
  • Williams went 5-8 from the floor, including 4-5 behind the arc, and also grabbed eight rebounds.
  • Jordan totaled 15 points and seven rebounds off the bench.
  • Joseph finished 10-10 at the free throw line and registered 14 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals.
  • Wesley recorded 10 points, four rebounds and four blocks, while Hughes chipped in with 10 points.
  • Stevenson shot 55.6% over the final 20 minutes and 44.3% for the contest.
  • The Mustangs were just 7-24 behind the arc, but generated six more trips to the free throw line and went 17-19.
  • LVC had a slight 31-30 rebound advantage.
  • Stevenson forced 23 Dutchmen turnovers and held a 20-11 lead in points off turnovers.

  • Stevenson will await its seed in the 2021 MAC Commonwealth Championship, which will feature a crossover game against a MAC Freedom opponent.
  • Those pairings will be announced after the final regular season games are played Monday night, with a game set for Thursday, March 18.
