Mustangs Score Five Unanswered in Victory Over Neumann

REISTERSTOWN, Md. - After falling behind two goals just 2:38 into the contest, the Stevenson women's ice hockey team scored five unanswered en route to a 5-2 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) victory over Neumann Saturday evening at Reisterstown Sportsplex.

  • The Knights (1-2-1, 1-2-1 UCHC) took a 2-0 lead on their first two shots just 14 seconds apart, netting the second goal at the 2:38 mark.
  • Georgi Rowland found the back of the net both times for the visitors, scoring the second, unassisted.
  • The Mustangs (3-1-0, 3-1-0 UCHC) responded at the 4:19 mark as senior Angelica Saluzzo scored on a rebound off a shot by junior Elizabeth Gaudreau.
  • Stevenson earned the games first power play and needed just 32 seconds before first year Hannah Labbe tied the game on assists by junior Brianna Crosson and sophomore KaliJo Zagula.
  • Zagula gave the hosts the lead just 1:48 later after her shot from the point hit off the post and into the net, getting helpers from senior Trinity Barcless and Labbe.
  • Barcless made it 4-2 in favor of the Mustangs with 7:12 remaining in the period on assists from sophomore Ashlyn Bray and first year Franki Cappello.

  • Both team's were whistled for a penalty early in the period, producing four-on-four play for two minutes. The Mustangs outshot Neumann, 4-1, during that time.
  • Stevenson went on the penalty kill for the first time in the game at the 4:55 mark and got two saves from senior Annika Carlander in net.
  • The Mustangs had 1:25 of a five-on-three power play and totaled seven shots over both penalties but Alexa Lamplugh kept the puck in front.
  • With 46.1 seconds remaining in the period, the Mustangs went back to the box for just the second time in the contest.

  • With 1:14 left to kill, the Mustangs recorded a shorthanded shot as Barcless got a shot on net during the second shift of the period.
  • Stevenson earned its second five-on-three power play of the game, this time for 1:04 but did not manage a shot during the two-player advantage.
  • Just past the midway point of the period, Carlander made a split save on a two-on-one that lead to a Mustangs goal down the other end.
  • Junior Ally Gibson scored on the rush down the other end on assists from first year Emily Brightbill and junior Tea Ferrara.
  • Each team had one more power play opportunity with the Mustangs recording four shots on their player advantage and the Knights two shots.

  • Stevenson outshot Neumann, 46-15, holding the Knights to just five shots each period.
  • The Mustangs finished 1-for-6 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill. Stevenson has a power play goal in all four games this season.
  • Saluzzo has scored twice in three games this season after scoring just twice in her first three seasons.
  • Labbe has scored power play goals in back-to-back games and finished the weekend with two goals and two assists.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Friday, March 5 when the Mustangs host a UCHC and Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) contest versus Lebanon Valley beginning at 6:30 p.m.
