Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Stevenson University men's basketball team placed five players in double figures, led by junior McKale Williams' 18 points, as the Mustangs won their third in a row as they swept Eastern with a 95-83 win Friday night at Owings Mills Gymnasium in MAC Commonwealth action.
- Eastern (0-2, 0-2 MAC Commonwealth) jumped out to a 5-0 lead 1:30 into the game.
- Stevenson (3-3, 3-3 MAC Commonwealth) scored the game's next 13 points to take a 13-5 lead just under five minutes in on a free throw by Ethan Jones.
- A 6-0 spurt by the Eagles cut the Mustang advantage to five before a 12-0 run capped by a Cameron Sapienza three made the score 25-11 with 11:18 left in the period.
- The guests pulled within six, 30-24, with 6:39 on the clock.
- A jumper by Jalin Jordan 2:39 before intermission capped a 13-6 run by the Mustangs and made it 43-30.
- Stevenson took a 50-38 lead into halftime.
- A three by Merlon Devine 3:37 into the second half put Stevenson up 17, 59-42.
- The hosts took their largest lead, 75-52, on a three by Norman Hughes with just under 11 minutes remaining.
- Trailing 79-57, Eastern used a 16-4 run to pull within 10, 83-73, with just under five minutes left on a basket by Joshua Grant.
- Coming out of a timeout, Evan Joseph hit a long three to make it 86-73, and following an Eagle basket at the other end, another Joseph triple made it 89-75 with 3:55 left.
- Two Williams' free throws with 2:36 left increased Stevenson's lead to 16.
- The Mustangs pushed the lead back to 19 before Eastern closed the game on an 8-1 run.
- Williams finished 6-10 from the floor and also recorded six rebounds and a pair of steals.
- Joseph matched his career high in the scoring column, totaling 16 points and grabbing eight rebounds. He was 5-8 from the floor.
- Devine finished with 13 points and a trio of steals, while Jordan and Jones each added 10 points.
- Jones was 6-6 at the free throw line as the Mustangs finished 19-27 (70.4%) from the charity stripe.
- The Mustangs shot 53.3% (32-60) for the game, including 57.7% over the final 20 minutes, and knocked down 12 of their 25 three-point attempts.
- Eastern shot 62% in the second half and 52.5% for the game, but was just 7-20 from long range.
- Stevenson held a 36-30 rebounding advantage, with the Mustangs holding a 13-2 advantage in second chance points.
- The 95 points were Stevenson's most in a game since a 101-71 win over Widener on January 12, 2019.
- Stevenson takes on Albright next weekend, hosting the Lions on Thursday, March 4 before traveling to Reading, Pa. the next night. Both games are set for 7 pm tips.
