OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Led by two goals by first year Mac Lowry, the Stevenson men's ice hockey team opened the 2021 season with a 4-1 non-conference victory over Chatham Friday afternoon at Reisterstown Sportsplex. The win was the 50th in program history for the Mustangs.

• Lowry got the hosts on the board just 1:22 on a one-timer from senior Carl Lyden. Senior Matt Cappucci played the puck up the boards to Lyden who sent it across to Lowry for the score.
• The Mustangs (1-0) were whistled for the first penalty of the game with the Cougars (0-1) capitalizing to level the game at, 1-1, at the 7:17 mark.
• Stevenson ended the opening frame on the penalty kill once again but sophomore Marko Sturma stopped both shots he faced on the man-advantage.

• The Mustangs recorded five shots to open the period before going on their first power play of the game just 4:04 into the frame.
• Stevenson totaled three shot attempts on the man-advantage but all three were blocked before making it to the net.
• Each team had an additional power play opportunity in the period but neither team recorded a shot on net.

• Stevenson went on the penalty kill just 34 seconds into the period but Sturma stopped all three shots he faced.
• Just 17 seconds after the Mustangs first penalty was released, the hosts found themselves back in the penalty box but Sturma once again kept the puck out of the net.
• The Mustangs earned a power play after a holding penalty and scored with 29 seconds remaining as Lowry carried the puck into the offensive zone untouched before firing a shot to the top left corner. First years Eric Olson and Seth Bergeron picked up their first career points with the assists.
• After hitting the crossbar earlier in the period, junior Chad Watt forced a turnover in the Cougars defensive zone and scored unassisted over the shoulder of goaltender Ricardo Gonzalez with just under two minutes left.
• Senior Aaron Murray forced a turnover in the neutral zone before classmate Houston Wilson picked up the puck finding first year Brendan Rylott ahead. Rylott netted his first career goal on an empty net with 1:05 remaining in regulation.

• Stevenson outshot Chatham, 37-20, including 28-11 over the final two periods.
• The Mustangs were 1-for-4 on the power play and 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.
• The win the seventh straight in the series for Stevenson, who is 7-0-0 all-time versus the Cougars.
• Sturma earned his first career victory in net, stopping 19 of 20 shots, in his first-ever appearance.

• Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, February 13 when the Mustangs complete a home-and-home series versus Chatham. Puck drop is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
