Williams, Holton Pace Mustangs at Widener

CHESTER, Pa.- Junior McKale Williams and sophomore KJ Holton finished with 14 and 11 points, respectively, but the Stevenson University men's basketball team was stymied for the second straight night by Widener, with the Pride taking a 66-57 win at the Schwartz Center Friday night.

  • Williams scored the first eight points of the game for Stevenson (0-2, 0-2 MAC Commonwealth) with his three at the 16:45 mark making it 5-0.
  • Widener (2-0, 2-0) built a 15-10 lead with 10:33 on the clock.
  • A three by Christian Rodriguez, followed by a steal and basket by Evan Joseph, tied the game 15-15 with 9:49 left.
  • A pair of Bo Wesley free throws extended the run to 7-0 and put the Mustangs on top with 9:07 on the clock.
  • After two ties at 19-19 and 21-21, Isaiah Oshinnaiye put the Mustangs in front 23-21 with just over five minutes remaining before the break.
  • An 8-0 Pride run put the hosts back on top, 29-23, with 2:14 left.
  • Widener took a 31-25 lead into intermission.

  • Merlon Devine's three 18 seconds into the second stanza cut Widener's lead to two, 31-28.
  • A 9-2 Pride run put Widener up 10, 40-30, with 16:51 on the clock.
  • The Mustangs chipped away and another Rodriguez triple with 10:01 in regulation pulled the visitors within five, 49-44.
  • A basket by Williams with 6:37 remaining pulled Stevenson within four, 54-50.
  • Widener scored the next seven points to go up 61-50 with 3:03 left and led by at least nine the rest of the way.

  • Williams finished 6-11 from the floor and grabbed six rebounds to go along with his 14 points.
  • Holton went 5-6 at the free throw line and also registered five rebounds and three assists.
  • Devine and Rodriguez contributed eight points apiece.
  • Stevenson shot 37.3% overall but 4-16 from three and 9-14 at the free throw line.
  • Widener, which outrebounded the Mustangs 43-34, shot 45.6% but was just 5-25 from long range and 9-16 at the charity stripe.
  • 10 different players scored for Stevenson as 13 players saw the floor.

  • Stevenson is slated to meet Messiah in a two-game series next week, traveling to Grantham, Pa. for a 7 pm tip on Thursday, February 18, before hosting the Falcons at Owings Mills Gymnasium the next night.
