Chester, Pa. -  The Stevenson University women's basketball team opened its 2020-21 campaign with a 55-66 loss against Widener on Thursday night at the Schwartz Athletic Center. Leading the Mustangs was Alexa Sanmartin contributing 14 points for the Mustangs on three, three's

• A Sanmartin basket 1:31 into the match-up for Stevenson (0-1 MACC) opened the game for the Mustangs to trail Widener (1-0 MACC), 2-4.
• Laila Abdul-Rahman halted the Pride's four-point run with a layup, with 3:48 left in the quarter.
• A layup by Morgan Pennick capped the first quarter for the Mustangs to get within one point of Widener, 8-9.

• Just 17 seconds into the second quarter, Kellie Johnson changed the lead with a layup, 10-9.
• 20 seconds later, Sanmartin hit a three to make it a 13-11 game.
• Gianna Samuels changed the lead with a three to lift the Pride one point over Stevenson, 13-14. She followed 25 seconds later with another three-pointer to make it a 13-17 game.
• At the 5:45 mark, Abdul-Rahman brought the Mustangs within one with a layup, 16-17.
• Widener held a 14-7 run over the Mustangs for the next five minutes, Brynne Deluzio capped the first half for the Mustangs with a three, 23-31.
• With six seconds left in the half, Kyra Schneck made a basket to have a ten point lead over the Mustangs, 23-33.

• Following a Olivia Coleman steal, Johnson opened the second half to hit a three to bring the Mustangs within seven of the Pride, 26-33.
• Two Pennick free throws at the 6:21 to put the Mustangs within five of the Pride.
• With 1:17 left in the quarter, a Samuels three lifted Widener over Stevenson by 11, 35-46. Followed by a second three-pointer with two seconds left until the final quarter.

• A Coleman basket opened the final quarter, 36 seconds later, Morgan DeBeary followed with a three for the Mustangs, 40-51.
• In the next seven minutes, Alexa Sanmartin capped a 10-13 run to make it a 50-63 game.
• With 1:05 left to play, DeBeary posted a layup to bring Stevenson back within 13 of the Pride.
• Sanmartin hit her third three of the day with 29 seconds left to play, making it a 55-66 game for the Mustangs.

• Stevenson shot 32.8% while Widener shot 46.4%.
• Widener outrebounded the Mustangs 42-37.
• The hosts took 10 trips to the free throw line, while the Mustangs took five.
• Sanmartin led the team with 14 points.
• DeBeary followed with 11 points, five rebounds, and three steals for her Mustang debut.
• Johnson posted seven rebounds and five steals on the game.
• Coleman tallied six points on five rebounds.

• The Mustangs will host Widener in its home opener on Friday, February 12 at 7:00 p.m. at the Owings Mills Gymnasium.
