Three Record Double Digits as Mustangs Ease Past Eastern

OWINGS MILLS, Md.- Stevenson women's basketball picked up a MAC Commonwealth win over Eastern Saturday afternoon inside Owings Mills Gymnasium. 

Trisha Tellian led the Mustangs with 11 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Tellian went 3-4 in field goals and 3-4 in three-pointers. Denia Campbell and Emori Jeselskis both added ten points as the Mustangs totaled 14 points in the paint and 32 points off the bench. 

  • The Mustangs were quick to act in the opening quarter as Kellie Johnson assisted Campbell for the first bucket of the game within the first 15 seconds. 
  • Eastern and Stevenson went back and forth throughout the quarter but the Mustangs kept with the lead following a Morgan DeBeary layup. Stevenson led, 11-7. 
  • At the 2:14 minute mark, Tellian picked up a Mustang defensive rebound. Going the length of the court Tellian passed the ball to DeBeary for a wide-open layup to extend Stevenson's lead, 15-9. 
  • Eastern put up two jumpers to end the first quarter and cut the Mustang's lead, 15-13. 

  • Three minutes into the second quarter, Tellian opens up the scoring for Stevenson. With an assist from Aysia Ferguson, Tellian sinks a three to lead, 18-13. 
  • With a throw from the down court, Campbell goes up for the open layup but is fouled on the missed bucket. Campbell adds one from the free-throw line to go up by six against the Eagles. 
  • Olivia Coleman's pass from the center to Maleah Smith gives the Mustangs an 11-point lead over Eastern with four minutes left to play in the quarter. 
  • Jeselskis throws the ball for the length of the court after a rebound to pass it to Campbell. Campbell hands the ball over to Smith for another jumper. 
  • The Eagles put down the final four points of the half as Stevenson continued to lead. At the break, the Mustangs led, 31-19. 

  • Two consecutive fouls from the Eagles allowed the Mustangs to add four more points to the board as DeBeary and Campbell sunk their free throws midway through the quarter. 
  • In the final four minutes of the quarter, the two teams traded fouls. Two free throws from Laci Johnson at 3:34 gave Stevenson a 13-point lead. 
  • Seconds later a three from Tellian pulled Stevenson ahead, 43-27. 
  • Following a Mustang missed shot, K. Johnson picked up the rebound. With less than a minute in the quarter, Jeselskis added three to lead, 48-29. 
  • With 0.03 on the clock, Jeselskis put down two free throws as Stevenson led, 50-31 going into the fourth quarter. 

  • A Campbell layup at 6:22 extended the Mustangs lead to 52-35. 
  • At the 5:34 minute mark, L. Johnson assisted Coleman for two. 
  • K. Johnson added a three-pointer with 1:29 left on the clock. 
  • Campbell closed out the game sinking two free throws as Stevenson defeated Eastern, 59-46. 

  • Stevenson shot 29.3% from the floor placing three in double digits. 
  • The Mustangs posted an impressive 34 points from the bench which included Tellian and Jeselskis placing in double digits. 
  • Both teams were even with 41 rebounds apiece. Colemen added a season-best 14 rebounds while K. Johnson recorded ten for the Mustangs.
  • Stevenson held Eastern to just one three-pointer out of 15 attempts for the game while the Mustangs went 9-17 in three-pointers.
  • Stevenson moves to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in the MAC Commonwealth while Eastern drops to 1-7 overall and 0-3 in the MAC Commonwealth. 

  •  Stevenson will take a week off as they close out the fall semester. The Mustangs will compete in the Hilton Scranton Poinsettia Classic starting on December 21st. Stevenson will face TCNJ at 5:30 PM.
