Mustangs Triumph Over Trine in Codfish Bowl Consolation

BOSTON, Mass.- The Stevenson women's hockey team got back to their winning ways Sunday afternoon as they defeated Trine, 3-2 in the Codfish Bowl consolation game.

Stevenson scored three second-period goals to defeat Trine. Ally Gibson, Ashlyn Bray, and Cassie Campbell scored the goals for the Mustangs while Nikki Kendrick and Franki Cappello assisted. 

  • At the 2:09 minute mark, the Mustangs started off with possession as they fired off three consecutive shots. Two were saved by Trine goalie, Ryleigh Furlong while the other was blocked by Gabrielle Hicks. 
  • Trine took over possession for the next couple of minutes as they scored their first goal of the game at the 11:54 minute mark on a power play. 
  • In the final seconds of the first period, Trine scored their second goal to lead, 2-0 at intermission. 
  • Kendrick took a last-second shot to finish out the period but it was saved by Furlong. 

  • The Mustangs were off to a hot start as Gibson scored unassisted on a short-handed goal at 3:01. 
  • In a two-minute span, Trine took six shots with all but one going wide. 
  • Seconds into a Stevenson power-play, Kendrick assisted Bray for the Mustang's second goal of the game to tie it up, 2-2. 
  • At the 14:48 minute mark, Cappello assisted Campbell on the game-winning goal. 
  • At 15:55, Stevenson had a power-play opportunity. The Mustangs took four shots during the opportunity but all were unsuccessful. 

  • Stevenson once again got off to a fast start in the third period as they had another chance at a power-play opportunity. The Mustangs tallied five shots within the two minutes but all were blocked or saved. 
  • Trine took over for the rest of the period but couldn't capitalize on any of their final 28 shots. 

  • Stevenson moves to 3-5-0 overall on the season while Trine falls to 1-9-0. Trine's lone win of the season was over Stevenson when the two teams met for their first game of the season. 
  • Campbell and Gibson scored their second goals of the season and Bray scored her first goal of the season. 
  • Ainsley King recorded 31 saves in the net for the Mustangs. 
  • Stevenson totaled 17 shots while Trine totaled 31 shots. 
  • Stevenson and Trine both capitalized on one of their power play opportunities. 

  • Stevenson opens up MAC play on December 3 as they travel to Wilkes at 5:00 PM.
