Sea Gulls Soar Past Mustangs

SALISBURY, Md.- The Stevenson women's basketball team dropped an 84-55 decision on Tuesday evening at the Maggs Physical Activity Center. 

  • Two Mustangs scored in double figures on the night. Aysia Ferguson picked up ten points and three rebounds while Laci Johnson also picked up ten points from the bench. 

  • Salisbury raced ahead to a 9-2 start after seven consecutive points. 
  • Michelle Mesquita cut the Sea Gulls lead in half as she made a jumper at the 4:43 minute mark. 
  • Denia Campbell sunk a free throw to bring the Mustangs within six at 14-8. 
  • Salisbury finished the quarter with the final four points taking a 24-10 lead. 

  • The Sea Gulls picked up four straight points off of free throws after two Mustangs fouls. 
  • Morgan DeBeary put up three midway through the second quarter as Salisbury continued to lead, 33-19. 
  • DeBeary picked up two more on free throws after she drew a foul. Stevenson kept trying to close in on the gap but Salisbury kept their lead within ten. 
  • Following a steal from Karleigh Leo, Morgan Pennick assisted Johnson for a three-to trail, 39-24. 
  • Within the last three minutes, Salisbury closed out the quarter with nine more points to add to the lead. The Sea Gulls went into the locker room up, 48-24. 

  • In the first minute, DeBeary drew a foul as she put in two free throws for the Mustangs. 
  • A jump shot by Ferguson brought Stevenson within 20 at 7:40. 
  • A steal by Pennick and then a jumper made by Kellie Johnson left Stevenson still trailing, 53-32. 
  • Stevenson kept trying to play catch up as they were behind, 67-38 following a layup by Stephanae Lawrence

  • Emori Jeselskis ran the full length of the court following a steal to put in two. Following the layup, L. Johnson drilled a three off a pass from Jeselskis.
  • Jeselskis banked two free throws as the Mustangs trailed by 26 with less than two minutes in the quarter. 
  • Salisbury sunk a layup with 20 seconds left as they won, 84-55. 

  • Stevenson shot 58.3% from the free-throw line. 
  • Salisbury held the advantage in rebounds with 53 while Stevenson totaled 28. 
  • The Mustangs scored more points off of turnover with 22. 

  • Stevenson returns home December 1st as they open up conference play against Hood at 6:00 PM
