Box Score REISTERSTOWN, Md. -- Despite a strong start, Stevenson fell behind early on a shorthanded marker and could not recover as Utica cruised to an 8-2 victory over the Mustangs here Friday at the Reisterstown Sportsplex.
Stevenson (2-3, 2-1 UCHC) could not break through despite large chunks of possession early, while Utica (5-1, 5-0) made the most of its chances, racking up four goals in the third period. Karly Aguirre found the back of the net for Stevenson in the second period, while
- Stevenson had three early attempts, all saved by Utica goalie Savannah Gutierrez. Tea Ferrara, Megan Swick and Karly Aguirre all had early looks for the Mustangs within the opening eight minutes.
- Erica Sloan countered back and netted the first goal of the game, a shorthanded tally, to place the visitors ahead 1-0.
- Stevenson went to the powerplay once again, unable to get any quality looks through the Pioneer penalty kill. Utica doubled the lead with less than three minutes left in the frame.
- The Pioneers struck quickly into the second period for a commanding 3-1 edge, but Stevenson answered back on Aguirre's third goal of the season. Hannah Labbe and Trinity Barcless added assists on the Mustangs' lone marker of the second period.
- Utica capped the second-period scoring at 18:21.
- The Pioneers found the back of the net three more times before Stevenson netted its second goal of the game at the 17:47 mark. Labbe finished off the goal from Aguirre and KaliJo Zagula.
- Utica struck one more time with the player advantage at 19:36, capping the 8-2 score.
- Stevenson held the edge in shots during the first 20 minutes (7-4) before Utica piled on the attempts over the final two periods.
- Labbe and Aguirre had a goal and assist each for the Mustangs.
- Ainsley King made seven saves in goal, giving way to Olivia DeGuire in the third period.
- Stevenson and Utica will reconvene on Saturday, November 20 for a rematch, starting at 3:00 PM.
