Mustangs Hold Off Blazers in Overtime

FREDERICK, Md.- The Stevenson field hockey team moved to 2-4 in the MAC Commonwealth, Wednesday as a goal from Meghan Huey lifted the Mustangs to a 3-2 win in overtime at Hood.

  • Stevenson started off the game in a dominant way as they scored the first goal of the game three minutes in. Following a shot by Rylee Leakway and then a save by the Hood goalie, Macy Kosanovich was able to find the back of the cage. 
  • The Mustangs finished off the quarter with a shot from Kaitlin Karns but it went wide. 

  • In the 24th minute of the game, after a Mustang corner, Leakway extended Stevenson's lead, 2-0. 
  • A minute later, Hood answered back with a goal of their own after a corner. 
  • The Mustangs fired off two more shots before the end of the quarter but they were saved by the Blazers goalie and then blocked. 

  • Hood again capitalized on another goal in the 34th minute to tie things up at two. 

  • Stevenson held on to the ball for the majority of the quarter as they were awarded six corners and took four shots but they couldn't find the back of the cage. 
  • In the 57th minute, the Mustangs were awarded a penalty shot. Carolyn Braziel took the shot but it was saved by the Blazer's goalie to force overtime.  

  • The Mustangs were off to a quick start in overtime as they were awarded a corner in the first minute. After a corner inserted by Leakway, Huey fired off a shot for the game-winning goal. 

  • Stevenson held a 16-4 advantage in shots and a 14-1 advantage in corners. 
  • Huey scored her first game-winning goal of the season and of her career. 
  • Kosanowich tallied her ninth goal of the season while Leakway added her third goal of the season. 
  • The Mustangs move to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in the MAC Commonwealth. Hood falls to 4-11 overall and 0-7 in the MAC Commonwealth. 

  • The Mustangs will host Lebanon Valley this Friday, October 22nd at 7:00 PM for their final home game of the regular season.
