Hall's Game-Winning Basket Pushes Mustangs Over No. 24 Albright

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Stevenson University women's basketball team hosted Albright on Wednesday night at Owings Mills Gymnasium, the Mustangs defeated No. 24 Albright, 55-53. The Mustangs held possession for the final nine seconds of the game, Junior Brandi Hall scored the game-winning basket in the paint with one second remaining in regulation. 

  • Just 10 seconds into the first quarter, Junior Brandi Hall put up a layup, 2-0, for the Mustangs (11-10, 6-6 MAC Commonwealth) to start the game.
  • At the 8:52 mark, a Hailey Dayton three put Albright (18-2, 9-2 MAC Commonwealth) on the board, 3-2.
  • Senior Hannah Crist responded with a three at the 8:33 mark to make the score, 5-3.
  • Following a steal at the 6:32 mark, Hall put up a layup a the 6:25 mark to extended the lead by six, 9-3.
  • Dejah Terrell brought the Lions within four, 9-5, of the Mustangs after putting up a layup at the 5:27 mark.
  • A Brynne Deluzio three at the 2:33 mark and a Denia Campbell basket one minute later extended the Mustangs lead to seven, 16-9.
  • The Lions scored five points in the remaining 45 seconds of the quarter to come within two of Stevenson, 16-14.

  • A Olivia Coleman free throw at the 14 seconds into the second quarter gave Stevenson a three-point lead, 17-14.
  • A Terrell jumpshot at the 8:51 mark tied the game 17-17. Terrell followed with a free throw to change the lead, 18-17. She extended the lead to three on a layup at the 8:21 mark.
  • Two Gabby Boggs free throws at the 5:59 mark gave the Lions a four-point lead, 22-18.

  • Following a Crist steal, Morgan Pennick made a basket at the 7:45 mark extending the lead to 11, 39-28.
  • An Amina Rauf layup at the 1:55 mark capped an 8-0 run for Albright
  • At the 1:20 mark, Huggins posted a layup followed by one Boggs free throw for the Lions at the 1:08 mark to make it a 43-40 game.
  • Two Abby Gaffney free throws brought the Lions within one of the Mustangs with 48 seconds left until the final quarter.

  • At the 9:13 mark, a Coleman layup extended the Mustangs lead to three, 45-42.
  • Hall hit a three to give Stevenson a five-point lead with 5:05 remaining in the game.
  • Maggie O'Hare put in one free throw to get Albright within four, 52-48, at the 4:45 mark.
  • At the 2:43 mark, an O'Hare layup brought the Lions within two of Stevenson, 51-53. O'Hare came back at the 1:43 mark to put up another layup to tie the game, 53-53.

  • With 1.1 seconds remaining in regulation, Hall hit a baseline jumper to make the final score 55-53.

  • Stevenson shot 30.0% while the guests shot 29.2%.
  • The Mustangs went 6-19 behind the arc while Albright went 2-19.
  • Albright narrowly outrebounded Stevenson 50-49.
  • Stevenson overcame 19 turnovers while Albright had 20.
  • The Mustangs shot 72.2% at the line while Albright shot 70.0%.
  • Hall collected 16 points and seven rebounds. 
  • Coleman tallied 11 points and 11 rebounds and one block.
  • Denia Campbell and Brynne Deluzio each had seven points off the bench.
  • The Mustangs gave the Lions their second loss of the season.

  • The Mustangs will host Messiah on Wednesday, February 12 for an 8:00 p.m. MAC Commonwealth contest at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
