Mustangs Down Lebanon Valley, 5-2, on Senior Day

REISTERSTOWN, Md. - The Stevenson men's ice hockey team finished the regular season with a 5-2 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) and Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) victory on Senior Day, Saturday afternoon at Reisterstown Sportsplex.

  • The Mustangs (16-7-2, 13-4-1 UCHC) had an early power play opportunity as the Dutchmen (5-16-4, 3-11-4 UCHC) were whistled for a penalty just 1:12 into the contest.
  • Stevenson fired five shots on net durin the man advantage but Henry Burns stopped all five while his defense blocked a shot just prior to the penalty expiring.
  • At the 9:03 mark, Lebanon Valley went on the power play and earned a five-on-three advantage 44 seconds later.
  • Senior Dustyn Moyer made a pair of saves while the Mustangs were down two men while classmate Evan Williams blocked a pair of shots on the kill.

  • The Mustangs went on their second power play attempt at the 5:52 mark of the period and needed just 45 seconds before sophomore Chad Watt found the back of the net.
  • Lebanon Valley cleared the puck the length of the ice towards Moyer who placed the puck for junior Aaron Murray who found Watt for a wrister.
  • Just 57 seconds later, the Dutchmen responded as Tino Alunni scored on a rush after shooting the puck off the back of Moyer in close.
  • Stevenson went back on the power play and converted for the second time as junior Houston Wilson buried a rebound off a shot from senior Dominic Brenza. Senior Bruce Stachitas had the secondary assist.

  • An early penalty gave the hosts a five-minute major that started after they killed the final 19 seconds of its penalty taken at the end of the second period.
  • Burns stopped all seven shots during the major penalty kill to keep the visitors deficit at one.
  • At the 11:18 mark, senior Christian Ripley netted his second shorthanded goal of the season as he was alone on a breakaway and scored a backhander to the top shelf.
  • With 5:13 remaining, the Dutchmen got back within one but the Mustangs scored twice over the final 1:35.
  • Freshman Austin Master scored on an assist from senior Nick Gray while senior Tyler Slusarczyk netted his first goal of the season on an assist from classmate Justin Stelzer.

  • Stevenson outshot Lebanon Valley, 60-21, including 43-11 over the final two periods.
  • The Mustangs finished 2-for-6 on the power play and 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.
  • Eleven different players recorded a point for the hosts.
  • Moyer's assist is the second goalie assist of the season as freshman Ryan Kenny picked up an assist at Lebanon Valley earlier in the season.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Wednesday, Feburary 26 when the Mustangs host a UCHC quarterfinal contest versus Neumann beginning at 7:00 p.m.
