Box Score UTICA, N.Y. - Stevenson men's ice hockey senior Nick Gray scored with 1:13 left in regulation to get within one but 4th-ranked Utica held on for a, 4-3, United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) victory Saturday evening at Adirondack Bank Center.
- The Mustangs (15-6-2, 12-3-1 UCHC) recorded the first shot on net of the contest past the three minute mark as junior Carl Lyden fired the puck on net.
- Utica found the back of the net on just its second shot of the game as Brandon Osmundson got the hosts on the board at the 6:07 mark.
- Just 1:48 later, the Pioneers (19-2-2, 13-2-1 UCHC) took a, 2-0, lead after Gianluca Baggetta made a pair of saves for Utica.
- Stevenson got back within one after sophomore Ryan Patrick scored an unassisted tally at the 9:06 mark.
- With 43 seconds remaining in the period, senior Chris Javens tied the game at, 2-2, going into the first intermission.
- At the 4:30 mark, the Pioneers reclaimed the lead, scoring an even strength goal.
- The Mustangs earned the game's first power play at the 6:33 mark, but did not record a shot.
- Utica went on the power play for the first time with 8:56 left but freshman Ryan Kenny stopped both shots on net.
- Stevenson failed to convert on a power play in the third period, once again failing to fire a shot on net.
- With 3:34 remaining, the Pioneers pushed their lead to, 4-2, as Jarrod Fitzpatrick scored 53 seconds after the hosts killed off the penalty.
- Late in regulation, Kenny was pulled for an extra skater and Gray converted, sending a wrister past Baggetta to get the visitor within one.
- Senior Dominic Brenza neither scored the equalizer but Baggetta knocked away his shot in front.
- The Mustangs kept firing shots that were blocked by the Pioneers defense before the puck slid out of the zone as the clock ticked down to zero.
- With the win, Utica takes sole possession of second place in the UCHC with two games remaining. The Mustangs, who currently sit in third, are four points ahead of Elmira.
- Utica outshot Stevenson, 33-20, and won 34 of the 61 face-offs.
- Both team's were scoreless on the power play as the Mustangs were 0-for-2 and the Pioneers, 0-for-1.
