Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Stevenson University women's basketball team hosted Messiah on the Box Out for Cancer Night Wednesday night, the basketball game honored the late Bryan Read, son of longtime Stevenson professor and ardent Mustang supporter Chip Rouse. The Mustangs fell to Messiah 65-49. Junior Olivia Coleman scored in double-doubles with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
- With 10 seconds into the game, Junior Brandi Hall hit a three for Stevenson (11-11, 6-7 MAC Commonwealth). Senior Hannah Crist followed up with a layup at the 9:15 mark, 5-0.
- Leah Springer put up a layup for Messiah (19-4, 13-1 MAC Commonwealth) at the 9:00 mark, 2-5
- At the 7:51 mark, Hall came back to hit a three to bring the score, 8-2.
- At the 4:22 mark, Laila Abdul-Rahman put up a layup to extend the Mustangs lead by 10.
- Eleana Eckley responded with a basket at the 3:56 mark to bring Messiah within eight of the Mustangs. Messiah scored the next four points capped by an Eckley free throw at the 1:51 mark.
- With 29 seconds left in the quarter, Olivia Coleman made a free throw, a Leah Springer jumper with five seconds left leaves the score, 10-15.
- At the 9:04 mark, one Springer free throw brought the Falcons within four, Springer came back at the 8:28 mark with a basket to come within two of Stevenson, 13-15.
- A Jayneisha Davis layup at the 7:58 mark tied the game, 15-15.
- To cap a 10-point run by Messiah, Coleman put up a layup at the 4:08 mark to come within four of Messiah, 17-21.
- At the 3:55 mark, Eckley responded by hitting a three to give Messiah a seven-point lead, 24-17.
- A Morgan Pennick layup at the 1:30 mark ended the half to make it a 19-26.
- To start the second half, a Coleman layup brought Stevenson with five to make it a 21-26 game.
- At the 9:28 mark, a Springer jumper extended the Falcons lead by seven, 28-21.
- Two Davis free throws at the 8:45 mark brought the score to 30-21.
- A Christ layup at the 7:38 mark shrunk the lead back to seven, 23-20. Springer responded with a three at the 7:26 mark to take the lead by 10, 33-23.
- Following a 9-11 run, with 17 seconds left in the third quarter, a Christ three got Stevenson within 10 of the Falcons, 44-34.
- Two Eckley free throws at the the 9:47 mark followed by a Megan Zimmerman jumper at the 8:53 mark made it a 48-34 game.
- Messiah scored the next six points capped by two Savana Herndon free throws at the 5:40 mark to bring the score to 36-58.
- At the 4:09 mark, a Herndon layup brought Stevenson within 20, 38-58.
- At the 2:46 mark, two Coleman free throws got Stevenson within 19 of Messiah, 41-60.
- With 49 seconds left in the game, an Alexa Sanmartin layup got Stevenson within 15 of the Falcons, 47-62.
- With 27 seconds left to play, a Madison Eich three extended the Falcons lead by 18.
- One Maleah Smith free throw followed by one Crist free throw ended the game 49-65.
- Messiah shot 44.2% while Stevenson shot 31.0%.
- Stevenson went 18.8% behind the arc while the Falcons went 27.3%.
- Stevenson outrebounded the Falcons 39-37.
- The Mustangs shot 10-17 at the free throw line while guest shot 16-20.
- Coleman tallied 14 points and 12 rebounds and two blocks.
- Hall collected 11 points and four rebounds while handing out four assists.
- Pennick, Johnson, and Crist each handed out two assists while Crist contributed eight points.
- The Mustangs travel to Lebanon Valley on Saturday, February 15 for a 4:00 p.m. MAC Commonwealth contest at Louis A. Sorrentino Center.
- Stevenson hosts Hood on Tuesday, February 18 for senior night, tip-off is at 8:00 p.m. at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
