11th-Ranked Stevenson Skates to 2-2 Tie Versus Fredonia

REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson men's ice hockey senior Nick Gray scored the game-tying goal with 2:40 remaining in regulation as the 11th-ranked Mustangs erased a third period deficit en route to a 2-2 non-conference tie versus Fredonia Saturday afternoon at Reisterstown Sportsplex.

  • The Mustangs (12-4-1) got on the board first as sophomore Ryan Patrick found the back of the net on a rebound in front.
  • Senior Bruce Stachitas fired a shot from the point before freshman Austin Master deflected it down on net with Patrick right there to clean it up.
  • Less than a minute later, Stevenson went on its first power play but did not record a shot on net.
  • With just under five minutes remaining, the Blue Devils (4-8-5) went on their first power play but freshman Ryan Kenny made two saves, including a diving block on an open net.
  • The Mustangs went back on the man advantage with 1:05 remaining in the frame that carried over into the second period.

  • Stevenson had a two-player advantage for nine seconds before recording three shots on the second power play.
  • Fredonia tied the game at the 4:55 mark after the puck was sent up the boards from the defensive zone before Victor Tracy sent a wrister over the glove of Kenny.
  • The Blue Devils went on the power play at the 11:46 mark and had a two-man advantage for 16 seconds.
  • Just five seconds after the first penalty expired, Fredonia took a 2-1 lead as Jacob Haynes found Ethan Kirbus fround behind the net for a tap-in goal.

  • The hosts went on the power play just 1:44 into the period but Ryan Pascarella stopped both shots on net.
  • Gray tied the game at the 17:30 mark from just inside the blue line after Patrick won the face-off back to Master before the rookie found Gray up top.

  • Stevenson had a power play opportunity just 1:22 into the extra frame after the Blue Devils were whistled for too many men on the ice.
  • Fredonia's defense came up with two blocked shots on the penalty kill.

  • Stevenson outshot Fredonia, 31-23, including, 10-5, in the third period.
  • The Mustangs finished 0-for-5 while the Blue Devils were 1-for-3 on the power play.
  • It is the fourth tie in the eight-game series and sixth game that has gone to overtime.
  • Patrick, who has a point in four consecutive games, recorded his eighth multi-point.
  • For Master, it is his fourth multi-assist game, and his fourth straight game with an assist.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Friday, January 31 when the Mustangs travel to King's for a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) and Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
  • The team is back home on Friday, February 7 when the Mustangs host a UCHC contest versus Neumann. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
