Hall Makes Game Winning Basket Against Salisbury

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Stevenson University women's basketball team picked up it's fifth straight win on Monday night against Salisbury 47-46. The match-up came down to the final minutes of the fourth quarter, when with 16 seconds left Junior Brandi Hall made a basket to give Stevenson a one-point lead over the Mustangs after only scoring four points in the final quarter.

  • The game remained scoreless for nearly two minutes into the game, a Kellie Johnson layup gave the Mustangs (8-8, 3-4 MAC Commonwealth) a two-point advantage.
  • Salisbury (8-10) changed the lead of the game when Lauren Fortescue put up a three to make the score, 3-2 at the 7:47 mark.
  • At the 7:24 mark, Olivia Coleman put up a layup to change the lead for the Mustangs, 39 seconds later, a Hannah Crist three made the score 7-3.
  • At the 3:45 mark, a Hall three made the game 10-6. The Seagulls responded with a Fortescue three to bring Salisbury within one of the Stevenson, 9-10.
  • After a Catherine Gibson layup at the 2:18 mark to bring the Seagulls up by one, Coleman sunk two free throws at the 1:53 mark to give Stevenson the lead heading into the second quarter, 12-11.

  •  A Kaylee Otlowski jumper starts off the second quarter to give a one-point lead to the Seagulls at the 8:42 mark, 13-12.
  • Coleman changed the lead, 14-13, at the 6:54 mark with a layup.
  • The Seagulls responded with two Fortescue free throws to make the score 15-14 at the 6:18 mark.
  • Salisbury had a seven-point run in the next five and half minutes capped by a Fortescue three at the 1:39 mark to make it a 22-14 game.
  • Kirstin Huggins shrunk the Seagulls lead by six with a layup 59 seconds left until the break.
  • With two seconds left, a Courtney Brigham jumper ends the first half, 24-16.

  • A Emily Dilger layup at the 9:31 mark starts the second half, a Hall three at the 9:14 mark brings the Mustangs within seven, 19-26.
  • Following a 4-1 run, at the 7:18 mark, Hall came back to put up another three for Stevenson to shrink the Seagulls lead by two, 27-25.
  • At the 3:34 mark, a Coleman layup tied the game, 29-29.
  • Ottlowski and Alexa Sanmartin each posted a layup at the 2:17 and 1:23 marks for their teams to tie the game, 31-31.

  • Kylie Webb gives Salisbury a 33-31 lead off a basket at the 9:43 mark.
  • Johnson comes back to put up a layup at the 9:22 mark to tie the game, 33-33.
  • After a Coleman layup, the Seagulls score the next six points capped by a Otlowski layup at the 6:33 mark to extend the Seagulls lead by five.
  • Laila Abdul-Rahman put up a layup and one free throw at the 6:14 mark to bring Stevenson within two of Salisbury.
  • A Crist layup at the 5:24 mark tied the game, 40-40.
  • Jada Weldon gave the lead to Salisbury when she posted a layup at the 4:53 mark.
  • Off a Johnson steal, Hall posted a layup for the Mustangs to tie the game, 42-42 at the 3:56 mark.
  • A Crist jumper basket at the 2:12 mark ties the game after Fortescue put up a basket at the 2:50 mark.
  • At the 1:23 mark, one Brynne Deluzio free throw gives Stevenson the lead, 45-44. The Seagulls responded at the 1:13 mark with a Fortescue basket to take the leady by one, 46-45.
  • With 16 seconds left in regulation, a Hall jumper gives Stevenson the game winning basket to make it a 47-46 game.

  • Stevenson shot 29.7% overall while Salisbury was 24.4%.
  • Both teams went 5-11 at the free throw line.
  • Stevenson overcame 22 turnovers while Salisbury had 15.
  • The Mustangs had 55 rebounds while the Seagulls had 54.
  • Stevenson went 21.1% behind the arc shooting 4-19.
  • The game featured 12 lead changes and eight ties.
  • Hall collected 15 points for Stevenson and had five rebounds and four assists. 
  • Coleman tallied 15 rebounds and 12 points, and three blocks.
  • Johnson had seven rebounds, five points, four assists, and three steals.

  • Stevenson will travel to Hood on Wednesday, January 22 for a MAC Commonwealth match-up set for 8 p.m. at BB&T Arena.
  • The Mustangs host Alvernia at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29 for a MAC Commonwealth game at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
