Box Score PINE VALLEY, N.Y. - The 14th-ranked Stevenson men's ice hockey team scored three times in the third period, including twice on the power play, en route to a 5-1 United Collegaite Hockey Conference (UCHC) victory over Elmira Saturday evening at Murray Athletic Center.
- Just prior to the midway point of the opening period, the Mustangs (12-3-0, 9-1-0 UCHC) were whistled for the first penalty of the game.
- Despite losing the defensive zone face-off, it was Stevenson who went on the offensive as senior Dominic Brenza scored a shorthanded goal with 33 seconds remaining on the penalty kill.
- Elmira (10-4-1, 6-3-0 UCHC) tied the game just 1:46 later as Anthony Parrucci scored an even strength goal.
- The Mustangs recorded the next six shots on goal, including a goal by junior Carl Lyden with 6:08 remaining. Senior Christian Ripley picked up the assist.
- Both teams were called for penalties, producing four-on-four play for two minutes. The Soaring Eagles recorded both shots during that stretch.
- After back-to-back shots by the visitors, Elmira recorded the final shot of the period, with freshman Ryan Kenny knocking it away.
- Kenny made a pair of saves in the opening 34 seconds of the second period.
- The Soaring Eagles went on their second power play of the night just 1:38 into the frame but Kenny made three stops while the Mustangs defense had a pair of blocked shots.
- Stevenson went on its first power play attempt at the 8:25 mark but Chris Janzen made three stops to keep the hosts deficit at one.
- Just 58 seconds into the period, Elmira was called for goaltender interference. Janzen made two stops on the penalty kill while Kenny made a shorthanded save.
- At the 9:20 mark, senior Nick Gray pushed the Mustangs lead to 3-1 on assists from sophomore Ryan Patrick and freshman Austin Master.
- With 3:45 remaining, Stevenson went on the power play before going on a five-on-three power play just six seconds later after Elmira was called for a major penalty.
- Lyden netted his second goal of the game on the power play before Master got in on the scoring column with 35 seconds left in regulation.
- Brenza, Gray, Patrick, and senior Bruce Stachitas recorded assists on the two power play goals.
- Elmira outshot Stevenson 37-31, while the Mustangs had a slight 43-42 edge in face-off wins.
- The Mustangs finished 2-for-5 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
- Head coach Dominic Dawes picked up his 150th career victory while the Mustangs won a program record 12 games.
- Kenny finished with a career-best 36 saves, besting his previous high of 33.
- The victory also keeps Stevenson at the top of the UCHC standings, one game ahead of Wilkes.
- With his assist, Brenza tied the single season record with 17 assists, tying Jordan Watt '18.
- Gray netted his team leading 12th goal of the season, just one shy of tying the single season record.
- Meanwhile, Lyden has netted a goal in three consecutive games and recorded his second career multi-goal game.
