Collins Nets First Career Goal in Mustangs Loss at Neumann

ASTON, Pa. - Stevenson women's ice hockey junior Kira Collins netted her first career goal but Katelyn Brown recorded a hat trick as host Neumann posted a 4-0 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) victory over the visiting Mustangs Saturday afternoon at IceWorks.

  • Neumann found the back of the net early, as Brown gave the hosts a 1-0 lead just 2:09 into the contest.
  • At the 4:02 mark, the Mustangs (1-1-1, 0-1-0 UCHC) went on the power play and put three shots on net during the player advantage but all three were saved by Helen Cooney.
  • Fourty-four seconds after the power play ended, sophomore Nikki Kendrick fired a shot off the post.
  • Brown netted her second goal of the game just past the midway point of the period to double the Knights lead.
  • Stevenson went back on the power play less than a minute after the goal but Cooney saved all four shots she faced.
  • The Knights (3-1-0, 2-0-0 UCHC) went on the power play for the first time with 4:07 left in the period but junior Annika Carlander stopped all three shots.

  • Brown completed her hat trick just 22 seconds into the second period, pushing the Knights () lead to 3-0.
  • On the first power play of the second period, the Mustangs could not connect on any of their four shots on net.
  • Stevenson went on the penalty kill for the second time in the contest with Carlander making a pair of stops and sophomore Breanna Crosson and freshman Ashlyn Bray recording blocked shots.
  • Neumann pushed its lead to 4-0 with 18 seconds remaining in the period.

  • The Mustangs went on the power play at the 6:20 mark and fired three shots on net with all of them stopped by Cooney.
  • Stevenson got on the board at the 12:39 mark as Collins found the back of the net on assist from junior Angelica Saluzzo and sophomore Paige Sullivan.
  • The Mustangs outshot Neumann, 13-2, in the period.

  • Stevenson outshot Neumann, 49-18, and won 31 of the 52 face-offs.
  • The Mustangs went 0-for-5 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
  • Sophomore Tea Ferrara went 13-for-18 at the face-off dot.
  • Senior Allyson Barlow had a game-high 10 shots on net.
  • It is the first win for Neumann in the series since January 25, 2014.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Sunday, November 10 when the Mustangs travel to Manhattanville for a UCHC contest beginning at 3:00 p.m.
