Mustangs Advance to Codfish Title Game, Advance on Shootout Over Bowdoin

BOSTON, Mass. - Stevenson women's ice hockey junior Annika Carlander recorded a career-high 45 saves, including 20 in the first period, as the Mustangs advanced to the 13th Annual Codfish Bowl championship game in a shootout over Bowdoin Saturday afternoon at Raymond T. Barry Ice Rink. The teams finished in a 1-1 overtime tie.

  • Bowdoin (3-2-1) fired four shots on net in the opening 1:51 of the contest, with all four saved by Carlander.
  • The Mustangs (4-2-2) earned the game's first power play attempt at the 3:26 mark after a hooking penalty on Bowdoin.
  • Stevenson killed off a pair of penalty's in the period, with Carlander making a combined eight saves on the kills.

  • The Mustangs had a five-on-three power play for 29 seconds but needed just 21 as senior Allyson Barlow netted an unassisted goal to give Stevenson a 1-0 lead.
  • At the 16:20 mark, Bowdoin fired a shot off the post while Carlander made a pair of saves in the final minute.

  • With 4:18 remaining in regulation, Izzi Stoddard tied the game for the Polar Bears with an even strength, unassisted tally.
  • Sophmore Nikki Kendrick recorded a shotn on net with 1:03 remaining before Carlander made a save with 49 seconds left.

  • In the overtime period, Carlander stopped both shots she faced.
  • The Mustangs advanced on the shootout as both players scored in the opening two rounds, to win the shootout, 2-0.
  • Junior Trinity Barcless and senior Jordan Pirrello each scored as the Polar Bears failed to score first in each round.

  • Bowdoin outshot Stevenson, 46-18, including 20-6 in the first period.
  • Carlander's 45 saves rank tied for fourth all-time.
  • The Mustangs are making their second Codfish Bowl championship game appearance and first since 2015 when the Mustangs won it in overtime over UMass Boston.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Sunday, December 1 when the Mustangs face Williams in the title game at the Codfish Bowl. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
