Mustangs Win Fifth Straight, Pull Away From Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. - Stevenson University junior running back Titus Johnson carried 20 times for 113 yards and two touchdowns and the Mustang defense held a fifth straight opponent below 15 points en route to a 42-13 Middle Atlantic Conference victory over Lebanon Valley College Saturday afternoon at Arnold Field.

  • Lebanon Valley (3-5, 3-3 MAC) went three-and-out on its first drive.
  • On the first Stevenson (6-2, 5-1 MAC) drive, the Dutchmen came up with an interception at midfield that was returned 34 yards, setting up a 38-yard field goal that gave the hosts a 3-0 lead at the 11:14 mark.
  • Stevenson worked its way to the LVC 10 on its next drive, and after being pushed back to the 14, missed a 31-yard field goal attempt.

  • A five-yard pass from Ryan Sedgwick to Vincent Lee capped a six-play, 65-yard drive and put the Mustangs on top 7-3 1:30 into the second quarter.
  • The drive started with a 40-yard completion from Sedgwick to Chaz Lyles.
  • The Dutchmen got to their own 44 on their next possession, but a punt on 4th and 12 was blocked by Da'Juan Miles, setting the Mustangs up at the LVC 38.
  • Six plays later, a three-yard run by Johnson made it 14-3 with 9:26 on the clock.
  • Lebanon Valley countered with a six-play, 54-yard march capped by a three-yard rush to pull within 14-10 6:27 before halftime.
  • A 69-yard drive capped by a 26-yard completion from Sedgwick to Keenan Franz with just under three minutes left made it a 21-10 contest.
  • Nick Bentz connected on a 21-yard field goal as time expired for the hosts to make it 21-13 at intermission.

  • On the third play of the second half, Sedgwick and Lyles hooked up for a 72-yard touchdown completion to make it 28-13 1:11 into the quarter.
  • Miles blocked another punt on the first LVC drive of the second half, putting the Mustangs at their own 43.
  • With 4:40 left in the half, a one-yard Johnson run finished off a eight-play, 50-yard drive, extending the lead to 35-13.

  • Lebanon Valley worked its way to the Stevenson 16, but on 4th and 9, an incomplete pass turned the ball back over to the Mustangs with 14:25 remaining.
  • Back-to-back rushes by Kevin Joppy, one for 49 yards followed by a one-yard TD run, extended the Mustang lead to 42-13 with 6:12 left.
  • The Dutchmen worked their way to the Mustang 24 but turned it over with 2:36 left after a pass on 4th and 6 fell incomplete.

  • Stevenson held its fifth straight opponent under 15 points, and is averaging allowing 12.0 ppg during its five-game win streak.
  • The Mustangs outgained Lebanon Valley 534-226, including racking up 253 yards rushing.
  • The 253 yards on the ground is the most since rushing for 270 against King's on October 29, 2016.
  • Stevenson was 6-9 (67%) on third-down conversions while the Dutchmen were just 3-16.
  • Saadiq Pitts carried eight times for 52 yards, while Joppy rushed twice for 50 yards.
  • Lyles had 11 catches for 193 yards and a touchdown, one week after racking up 185 receiving yards.  His 193 yards are tied for the second-best single-game mark in program history.
  • Lyles moved into third place on the program's career receptions list and now has 128 career grabs.
  • Sedgwick finished 22-28 passing for 281 yards and three touchdowns but did throw a pair of interceptions.
  • Lee had seven catches for 45 yards, while Franz had three grabs for 39 yards.
  • Brody Campbell finished 6-6 on extra-point attempts.
  • Don Jones had a pair of sacks defensively, while Ryan Schoppert had a team-high eight tackles.
  • Hanif Jones finished with seven tackles.

  • Stevenson travels to Wilkes for a noon kickoff next Saturday, November 9.  The Mustangs and Colonels are currently tied for second in the MAC standings with 5-1 league records.
  • The Mustangs close out the regular season on Saturday, November 16, hosting Lycoming for a noon kick at Mustang Stadium.
