Mustangs Drop UCHC, MAC Contest Versus Wilkes

REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson men's ice hockey sophomore Ryan Patrick scored with 13.9 seconds remaining in regulation to get the Mustangs within one but it wasn't enough as visiting Wilkes escaped with a 3-2 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) and Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) victory Friday evening at Reisterstown Sportsplex.

  • The Colonels (3-1-0, 3-0-0 UCHC) took an early 1-0 lead as Phil Erickson netted his third goal of the season just 1:50 into the contest.
  • At the 5:19 mark, the Mustangs (2-1-0, 2-1-0 UCHC) earned the game's first power play but the lone shot by junior Houston Wilson was saved.
  • The hosts went back on the power play at the 9:26 mark and scored just 14 seconds into the man advantage as senior Nick Gray scored off assists from Patrick and freshman Austin Master.
  • Master played the puck down to Patrick who was positioned on the right wing before sending it across to Gray who sent the wrister past Michael Paterson-Jones.
  • For the third time in the period, the Mustangs went on the power play but it lasted just 1:07 before Stevenson was whistled for its first penalty.
  • Wilkes had its first full two-minute power play with 2:20 remaining before intermission and scored 1:07 into the advantage as Donald Flynn's wrister found the back of the net.

  • In the opening five minutes, the Colonels pushed their lead to 3-1 as Jevan Sidhu scored on a breakaway after a shot by Wilson was saved down the other end.
  • Just 58 seconds after the goal, Wilkes was whistled for a five-minute major and a game misconduct while the Mustangs were called for a minor penalty.
  • Twelve seconds after Stevenson's three-minute power play began, they were sent back to the box for a hooking penalty.
  • The Mustangs went back on the power play with 1:52 remaining but both shots on net were saved by Paterson-Jones.

  • Stevenson was whistled for four penalties in the third period while Wilkes was called for two.
  • With 25 seconds remaining, Jevan and Master were called for matching minor penalties, producing four-on-four.
  • The Mustangs scored 12 seconds later as senior Dominic Brenza won the neutral zone face-off before finding Patrick who scored on a back-hander.

  • Stevenson outshot Wilkes, 35-27, including 21-15 over the final two periods.
  • The Mustangs won 43 of the 72 face-offs with sophomore Luke Benitez going 14-for-17 at the dot.
  • Junior Dylan Schoen finished with 24 saves, including 10 in the first period.
  • Stevenson finished 1-for-6 on the power play while Wilkes was 1-for-5.
  • It is the fifth career multi-point game for Patrick.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Sunday, November 17 when the Mustangs travel to Morrisville State for a non-conference contest beginning at 3:00 p.m.
  • The Mustangs return home on Friday, November 29 when the team hosts 10th-ranked St. Norbert in non-conference action. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
