Leftridge Records 1,000th Kill, Mustangs Win Two, Remain Unbeaten

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Senior Katie Leftridge of the Stevenson University women's volleyball team became the seventh player in program history with 1,000 career kills as the Mustangs remained unbeaten with wins over Haverford and Gettysburg in a tri-match at Bream Gymnasium.  The Mustangs swept the Fords 3-0, then took a 3-1 triumph against the host Bullets.

  • Set scores were 25-18, 25-12, 25-14.
  • Stevenson (22-0) hit .351 for the match while holding the Fords (17-6) to -.021 hitting.
  • The Mustangs led 20-17 in the first set when they scored five of the final six points to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Leftridge totaled 15 kills on .444 hitting and also had six digs.
  • Shannon Baily had seven kills on .462 hitting and four blocks.
  • Haley Hoover racked up seven blocks.
  • Julie Nightwine had 18 assists, while Mackenzie Blevins finished with 15.
  • Kayla Vaeth finished with a team-best eight digs.

  • Set scores were 20-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-22
  • Leftridge registered her 1,000th career kill in the fourth set and finished with 19 in the match on .359 hitting, while also recording nine digs.
  • Simone Gest had 10 kills and hit .280, while Baily and Prokic each had nine kills.
  • Prokic had four blocks, while Baily, Hoover and Blevins each had three.
  • Nightwine totaled 21 assists and 11 digs, while Blevins handed out 24 assists.
  • Vaeth led the Mustangs again with 13 digs.
  • The Mustangs hit .223 as a team while Gettysburg (12-9) hit .227.

  • Leftridge needed 31 kills for 1,000 entering the tri-match and now has 1,003 for her career.  She reached the mark after recording just 50 kills as a freshman.
  • Stevenson's 22 straight wins to start the season are just one off the program record of 23 set in 2013.
  • The Mustangs remain one of three teams unbeaten in Division III along with Johns Hopkins (20-0) and Tufts (16-0).  Stevenson hosts the Blue Jays Thursday, October 17 at 7 pm.

  • Stevenson is back in action Tuesday night, hosting Widener for a 7 pm MAC Commonwealth match at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
