Mustangs Open New Year With Win Over Wilkes

REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson women's ice hockey senior Kellen Wittman recorded her sixth career multi-goal game while both senior Cierra Siemasko and sophomore Casey Storck recorded a goal and two assists in the Mustangs 5-1 non-conference victory over Wilkes Saturday afternoon at Reisterstown Sportsplex.

  • Wittman scored just 29 seconds into the contest after Storck forced a turnover at the blue line.
  • The Colonels (0-10-0) leveled the game at 1-1 at the 2:53 mark as Kendall Castro scored on a breakaway.
  • Wilkes earned the first power play of the game but sophomore Annika Carlander saved both shots on net while freshman Breanna Crosson recorded a blocked shot.
  • The Mustangs (4-8-1) went on their first power play of the game at the 8:54 mark and fired six shots on net but all six were stopped.

  • Stevenson killed off its second penalty early in the frame behind a save from Carlander.
  • At the 6:39 mark, the Mustangs went on the power play and needed just 1:08 before Siemasko found the back of the net on assists from freshman Nikki Kendrick and senior Maddy Ricci.
  • With seven seconds left in the period, Storck found the back of the net on a wrister from the point on assists from Kendrick and Wittman.

  • Ricci recorded her third goal of the season just past the midway point of the period scoring a power play goal on assists from Siemasko and Wittman.
  • Wittman netted her second goal of the game with 2:11 remaining in regulation on assists from McGee and Carlander.

  • Stevenson outshot Wilkes, 64-18, including 26-6 in the third period.
  • The Mustangs won 43 of the 65 face-offs with Kendrick winning 12 of her 17. Sophomore Trinity Barcless won 11 of her 17 face-offs.
  • Wittman has scored in her last three games and in three of her last five.
  • It is the third multi-assist game for Storck this season.
  • Carlander is the second goaltender to record an assist this season, joining junior Annie Smyth-Hammond.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Friday, January 11 when the Mustangs host an United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) contest versus Chatham beginning at 7:00 p.m.
