Mustangs Bounce Back With Two Wins

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Stevenson University women's volleyball team bounced back with a pair of victories at Muhlenberg's Buttermaker Tournament Saturday.  The Mustangs downed Neumann 3-1 in the opener, then prevailed 3-2 over FDU-Florham.

  • Set scores against Neumann (5-4) were 25-17, 26-24, 17-25, 25-18.
  • Stevenson (4-5) hit .321 over the first two sets and .201 for the match while the Knights were held to .000 hitting in the first set and .117 for the match.
  • Katie Leftridge led the Mustangs with 12 kills and eight digs, while senior Chelsea Ireland had 10 kills and hit .333.
  • Junior Victoria Prokic had six blocks.
  • Senior Moriah Savage contributed seven kills and three blocks.
  • Sophomore Sarah Riggin led the Mustangs defensively with 19 digs, with junior Darian Hileman adding 17.
  • Junior Caroline Dangel posted a double-double with 17 assists and 13 digs and added a pair of service aces, while classmate Julie Nightwine had a season-high 22 assists.

  • Stevenson held off FDU-Florham (2-7) by scores of 25-15, 24-26, 25-18, 24-26, 15-13.
  • Savage racked up 20 kills on .415 hitting and added five blocks and seven digs. 
  • Ireland finished with a career-high 12 kills on .375 hitting.
  • Leftridge also totaled 12 kills and made 11 digs.
  • Prokic chipped in with nine kills and five blocks.
  • Dangel posted her second double-double of the day with 29 assists and 16 digs, while junior Emily Castro added 19 assists and 10 digs.
  • Riggin notched 15 digs.
  • The Mustangs hit .260 for the match and had 10 service aces, while holding the Devils to .089 hitting.

  • Ireland's two double-digit kill totals were the first two of her career.
  • The Mustangs have hit above .200 in five of the first nine matches.
  • Savage and Ireland were named to the All-Tournament Team.  Savage was also named to the All-Tournament Team at the season-opening Captains Classic at Christopher Newport.

  • The Mustangs return to MAC Commonwealth play Tuesday, traveling to Messiah for a 7:00 match.
  • Stevenson returns home next Saturday, September 15 to host a tri-match, taking on Rutgers-Camden at noon and Eastern at 2 pm.
