Mustangs Take Stockton to Five, Drop Two at Buttermaker

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Stevenson University women's volleyball team took Stockton to five sets before falling 3-2 and dropped a 3-0 decision to host Muhlenberg on day one of the Buttermaker Tournament at Memorial Hall Friday evening.

  • Stevenson rallied from 2-0 down to force a fifth set with set scores 25-21, 25-16, 17-25, 15-25, 15-11.
  • The Mustangs (2-5) hit just .043 in the first two sets before hitting .255 over the final three sets and .168 for the match.
  • Junior Katie Leftridge had her third double-double of the season with 13 kills and 11 digs.
  • Senior Moriah Savage registered 12 kills and eight digs, while sophomore Darian Hileman and freshman Mackenzie Blevins each had seven kills.  Hileman added 16 digs.
  • Senior Chelsea Ireland posted six kills and four blocks.
  • Sophomore Sarah Riggin had a career-best 25 digs.
  • Junior Caroline Dangel handed out 17 assists, with classmate Julie Nightwine adding 12.
  • The Ospreys (3-2) hit .000 in the third set and -.026 in the fourth, but rebounded by hitting .391 in the final frame with 10 kills and one error on 23 attempts.
  • Stockton never trailed in the fifth set, jumping out to a 5-1 lead.

  • Muhlenberg (6-1), which was facing Stevenson for the second time in seven days, prevailed by scores of 25-10, 25-18, 25-16.
  • Muhlenberg hit .333 for the match while limiting the Mustangs to .080 hitting.
  • Savage led the Mustangs with seven kills while Prokic finished with six.  Prokic also had a pair of blocks.
  • Riggin had seven digs, with Dangel handing out 14 assists.

  • Stevenson recorded 80 digs in the five-set match against Stockton, a season high.  The Mustangs last surpassed 80 digs in last season's MAC Commonwealth title game against Arcadia, a 3-1 win.
  • The Mustangs had a season-high 10 service errors in the Muhlenberg match.

  • Stevenson plays twice in the Buttermaker Tournament on Saturday, taking on Neumann at noon and FDU-Florham at 2 pm.
  • Stevenson returns home next Saturday, September 15 to host a tri-match, taking on Rutgers-Camden at noon and Eastern at 2 pm.
