Mustangs Make Late Push, Fall to Albright

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Stevenson University women's basketball team cut a 22-point first-half deficit to five in the fourth quarter before falling 66-57 to Albright in MAC Commonwealth play Saturday afternoon at Owings Mills Gymnasium.

  • Albright (4-6, 1-3 MAC Commonwealth) scored the game's first eight points before a layup by Hannah Crist got the Mustangs (3-6, 0-3 MAC Commonwealth) on the board at the 7:13 mark.
  • Back-to-back three-pointers extended the Lion lead to 18-4 midway through the half.
  • The Lions led 25-8 at the end of the quarter after going 10-19 from the floor in the opening frame.

  • Stevenson held the Lions scoreless for the first 5:30 of the quarter and pulled within 12, 25-13.
  • Albright countered with a 10-0 run to build a 35-13 lead 1:10 before halftime.
  • A three by Alexa Sanmartin 50 seconds before the break halted Albright's run.
  • Albright took its largest lead, 35-13, with 1:10 left on an Amina Rauf layup.
  • The Lions led 35-18 at intermission.

  • A Denia Campbell three at 8:12 capped an 8-0 run and pulled the Mustangs within nine, 35-26.  A conventional three-point play by Campbell started the run.
  • Albright extended the lead back to 16, 46-30, before a 7-0 run capped by a three by Yasmeen Nelson made it 46-37 at the 2:47 mark.
  • The Lions held a 52-41 lead heading into the final frame.
  • Campbell had 11 of Stevenson's 23 points in the quarter.

  • Stevenson cut Albright's lead to seven, 56-49, on a pair of Crist free throws with 5:18 left.
  • The Mustangs got the lead down to five, 58-53, following a fast-break layup by Brandi Hall after a steal by Crist with 3:47 to go.
  • The Lions scored the next four points and went up 62-53 with 2:08 remaining and led by as many as 11 down the stretch.
  • Stevenson got the lead back down to seven, 64-57, with seven seconds left.

  • Albright shot 40.6% for the game while the Mustangs were 30.8% from the floor.
  • The Lions outrebounded Stevenson 44-40.
  • Stevenson took 10 more trips to the free throw line, going 12-17, while Albright made all seven of its free throw attempts.
  • Campbell led the Mustangs with 15 points.
  • Crist totaled 14 points and five rebounds, while Coleman posted her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
  • Zaria Mohamed led Albright with 24 points.

  • Stevenson is idle until next Saturday, December 15, when it travels to Arcadia for a 1:00 MAC Commonwealth contest.
