Slusarczyk Nets Goal, Mustangs Fall at Home Versus Elmira

REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson men's ice hockey junior Tyler Slusarczyk netted his second goal in his last four games but the Mustangs dropped their fourth straight game in a, 3-1, United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) loss versus Elmira Saturday afternoon at Reisterstown Sportsplex.

  • The Soaring Eagles (7-6-0, 6-3-0 UCHC) won the first four face-offs and recorded the opening shot of the game before the hosts took the next four.
  • Just 3:09 into the contest, the Mustangs (5-7-0, 3-6-0 UCHC) went on the power play and put two shots on net with both turned aside by Jake Sabourin. Elmira also recorded two blocked shots.
  • Stevenson was whistled for a major penalty just past the midway point of the period and Elmira had a five-on-three for 1:38 after a minor penalty against the Mustangs/
  • Nick Ford got the visitors on the board just 33 seconds into the two-man advantage.

  • At the 4:17 mark, the Soaring Eagles went on the power play but freshman Riley McVeigh stopped both shots on net while junior Bruce Stachitas and freshman Jarrod Vroman each recorded a blocked shot.
  • Both team's were called for a minor penalty with 12:59 remaining before Elmira netted a four-on-four goal as Blake O'Neill scored after a face-off win by Andrew Pucci.
  • Midway through the period, the Mustangs had a five-on-three and right after the first penalty ended, Slusarczyk tipped in a shot by sophomore Aaron Murray at the point. Freshman Ryan Patrick picked up the secondary assist.
  • The hosts recorded the final four shots on the period, including a shot by freshman Luke Benitez right before time expired.

  • The Mustangs went on the power play just 1:51 into the period but only put two shots on net while Elmira recorded a shorthanded shot.
  • Each team had a shortened power opportunity midway through the frame, but neither team recorded a shot.
  • With 1:19 remaining, Stevenson pulled McVeigh in favor for an extra skater but the Soaring Eagles netted an empty net goal with 3.7 seconds remaining.

  • Elmira outshot Stevenson, 28-23, including 9-4 in the third period. The Soaring Eagles won 41 of the 65 face-offs.
  • The Mustangs finished 1-for-4 on the power play and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill.
  • The goal by Slusarczyk snapped a 91:59 scoring drought for Stevenson, spanning three games.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Friday, January 4 when the Mustangs travel to Fredonia for a two-game non-conference series. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
