Watt Nets First Career Goal, Mustangs Fall at Nazareth

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Stevenson men's ice hockey freshman Chad Watt netted his first career goal but the Mustangs fell for the second straight night in a, 5-2, United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) loss at Nazareth Saturday afternoon at Bill Gray's Iceplex.

  • The Golden Flyers (6-1-4, 4-1-2 UCHC) found the back of the net just 50 seconds into the game as Austin Romzek scored on the first shot of the game.
  • At the 6:26 mark, the Mustangs (5-5-0, 3-4-0 UCHC) were whistled for the first penalty of the game but freshman Riley McVeigh made three consecutive stops.
  • Just 1:31 after the penalty ended, Nazareth doubled its lead as Alex Corvi buried a rebound in front of the net.
  • The hosts outshot Stevenson, 12-5, in the opening period, including 10 of the final 13 shots.

  • The Mustangs got within one as Watt scored at the 4:19 mark with just two seconds remaining in their first power play. Junior Bruce Stachitas and freshman Ryan Patrick were credited with the assists.
  • Nazareth reclaimed a two-goal lead at the midway point of the period on a tip-in goal in front.
  • Both teams failed to convert on power play attempts in the final eight minutes of the frame.

  • Romzek netted his second goal of the night at the 5:25 mark of the third period to push the hosts lead to 4-1.
  • The Golden Flyers took a four-goal lead with an empty netter with 2:07 remaining in regulation.
  • With one minute remaining, sophomore Houston Wilson netted his first goal of the season on an assist from junior Tyler Slusarczyk.

  • Stevenson outshot Nazareth, 29-25, including 11-3 in the third period.
  • The Mustangs finished 1-for-3 on the power play, snapping a three-game power play drought. The team went 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
  • Watt is the 14th different player to find the back of the net this season and fourth freshmen.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Friday, December 7 when the Mustangs host a UCHC and Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) contest versus Lebanon Valley. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
