Mustangs Put Away Dutchmen in MAC Commonwealth Opener

ANNVILLE, Pa. - Senior Montaque Wright totaled 21 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and four assists as Stevenson University won its MAC Commonwealth men's basketball opener 84-79 at Lebanon Valley College Wednesday evening at Sorrentino Gymnasium.

  • Stevenson (4-1, 1-0 MAC Commonwealth) started the game on a 12-2 run capped by a three by Wright 3:23 into the game.
  • The Mustangs held a 20-10 lead at the 12:21 mark following a Sean Mayberry three.
  • Lebanon Valley (2-4, 0-1 MAC Commonwealth) utilized an 11-2 spurt to pull within one, 22-21, with 10:38 left before halftime.
  • The guests countered with eight straight points and a basket by Wright pushed the lead to nine with 8:25 on the clock.
  • Trailing 35-29, the Dutchmen outscored the Mustangs 12-2 over a 3:09 stretch to build a 41-35 lead with just over three minutes to go.
  • Stevenson held the hosts without a field goal the rest of the half and a Walt English layup with 22 seconds left before intermission put Stevenson up 43-42 at the break.
  • The Mustangs shot 54.5% in the opening 20 minutes and were 6-15 behind the arc, while LVC shot 51.6%.

  • The lead changed hands five times in the first four-plus minutes, with LVC taking a 53-49 lead with 15:32 remaining.
  • A Mayberry basket with 14:07 on the clock capped a 7-2 Mustang spurt and put the guests up 56-55.
  • Stevenson extended its lead to five, 60-55, on a basket by Kyle Wooldridge with 12:33 to go.

  • Mayberry totaled a season-high 14 points off the bench, going 3-5 behind the arc and 5-10 overall.  12 of his points came in the first half.

  • Harris knocked down a pair of threes and finished with 10 points, while Terrell added nine.
  • Abdo led Lebanon Valley with 28 points.
  • Stevenson picks up its first win at Lebanon Valley since the 2014-15 season.
