Mustangs Wrap Up Regular Season Crown on Senior Night

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Stevenson University women's volleyball team wrapped up its seventh straight unbeaten MAC Commonwealth slate and captured the conference's regular season championship with a 3-0 win over Hood on Senior Night.  Set scores were 25-14, 25-15, 26-24.

  • Stevenson (19-11, 8-0 MAC Commonwealth) never trailed and used a 6-0 run capped by a block by Victoria Prokic to take an 11-5 lead.
  • Hood (13-15, 1-7 MAC Commonwealth) worked its way back to within three, 16-13.
  • Holding an 18-14 lead, the Mustangs scored the final seven points of the set and a kill by Darian Hileman gave her team a 1-0 lead.
  • Stevenson hit .379 in the set, while the Blazers had seven kills and 10 errors for a -.086 hitting percentage.

  • Three straight points by the hosts put them up 10-6 following a kill by Rysleigh Reeves.
  • With a 16-13 lead, Stevenson reeled off seven straight points with Chelsea Ireland serving, and back-to-back kills by Katie Leftridge put the Mustangs up 23-14.
  • A service ace by Moriah Savage closed out the frame and put the Mustangs ahead 2-0 in the match.

  • The set featured 11 ties and five lead changes.
  • Stevenson led 21-20 when a kill and a service ace put the Blazers out in front, 22-21.
  • Hood was serving for set point and to force a fourth set up 24-23, but a Leftridge kill forged the 11th tie of the set.
  • A block by Ireland and Savage, followed by a Hood attack error, closed things out.

  • Stevenson finished unbeaten in MAC Commonwealth regular season play for the seventh straight season and is 56-0 all-time in the conference regular season.
  • Seniors Ireland and Savage were honored pregame.
  • The Mustangs hit .305 on the night, while Hood was held to .028 hitting after being in negative attack percentage in the first two sets.
  • Leftridge hit .357 and had 15 kills to go along with seven digs.
  • Savage had 10 kills and one error on 21 swings for a .429 hitting percentage.

Moriah Savage and Chelsea Ireland come up with a big block for a 25-24 lead in the third set.

  • Stevenson closes out the regular season Saturday when it hosts Stevens in an 11 am non-conference contest at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
