Mustangs Run Win Streak to Five, Slow Susquehanna

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Stevenson University women's volleyball team extended its win streak to five matches with a 3-0 sweep of Susquehanna Tuesday night at Owings Mills Gymnasium.  Set scores were 25-21, 25-23, 25-20.

  • Susquehanna (18-11) led 12-10 when the Mustangs ran off four straight points to take a 14-12 lead on a River Hawk attack error.
  • Stevenson (16-11) fell behind 17-15, but three straight points, including back-to-back kills by Darian Hileman and Victoria Prokic, put the hosts up 18-17.
  • The Mustangs closed the set on a 4-1 run and a Moriah Savage kill put Stevenson up 1-0.
  • Stevenson hit .394 in the first set while the River Hawks hit .310.

  • Back-to-back kills by Savage and a Susquehanna ball handling error gave the Mustangs an early 9-2 lead.
  • The River Hawks clawed back and four straight points tied the frame 13-13.
  • Susquehanna led 21-20 when the Mustangs posted three straight points, and back-to-back River Hawk errors made it 23-21 in favor of the hosts.
  • A block by Savage and Chelsea Ireland put Stevenson on top 2-0.

  • Susquehanna led 9-6 when a 5-1 Mustang run capped by a Sarah Riggin service ace and an Ireland kill put Stevenson up 11-10.
  • After four ties, Stevenson scored six straight points to take a 20-14 lead.  Hileman had a pair of kills during the run.
  • The River Hawks got within four, 24-20, but a service error ended the match.

  • Susquehanna is receiving votes in the latest AVCA Division III Top 25 released Tuesday.
  • Stevenson's five-match win streak is its longest of the season.
  • Katie Leftridge led the Mustangs with 11 kills, while Prokic, Hileman, Savage and Ireland all had eight kills apiece.
  • Ireland hit .700 with one error on 10 swings, while Prokic had no errors on 17 attacks for a .471 hitting percentage.
  • Leftridge also had eight digs.
  • Ireland had a team-high four blocks.
  • Caroline Dangel totaled 25 assists, while Julie Nightwine posted a double-double with 16 assists and 10 digs.
  • The Mustangs matched a season-low with two serve receive errors.
  • Stevenson hit .343 as a team, its third-highest hitting percentage of the season, while the River Hawks hit .248.
  • The Mustangs have won 15 straight sets since dropping the first set in a 3-1 win at Widener last Tuesday.

  • Stevenson travels to Elizabethtown for a 7:00 non-conference match on Thursday night.
  • The Mustangs return home on Thursday, October 25 when they host Hood for Senior Night at 7:00 pm in a MAC Commonwealth contest.
