Nine Players Record a Point in Mustangs 3-1 Victory Over King's (Pa.)

Box Score

REISTERSTOWN, Md. - The Stevenson men's ice hockey team had nine different players record a point, including goals by sophomores Nick Gray, Colin Woods and Nick Bohatiuk, as the Mustangs skated to a 3-1 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) and Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) victory over King's (Pa.) Friday evening at Reisterstown Sportsplex.

It is the eighth time the Mustangs (8-6-6, 6-2-3 UCHC) have held their opponent to one goal or less this season, including the fifth time on home ice.

The hosts had three power play opportunities in the opening period and found the back of the net on the ninth power play shot as Gray hit a one-timer on the back post after freshman Carl Lyden passed the puck across the face of the goal. Senior Doug Rose picked up the secondary assist. Gray has 11 points over his last eight games while Lyden extends his point streak to six games. Meanwhile, Rose has a point in three of his last five games.

Early in the second period, the Monarchs (0-18-0, 0-10-0 UCHC) tied the game but Stevenson responded just 28 seconds later with a even strength goal by Woods. After sophomore Colton McMenamin won the ensuing face-off, Woods fired a shot wide that bounced to sophomore Xavier Abdella at the blue line. Abdella's shot went wide and hit off the back boards to Woods at the post who was able to poke it past goaltender Link Ferch.

The goal snaps a four-game point streak for Woods while the assist snaps a seven-game point streak for McMenamin.

The Mustangs netted a second power play goal with 4:23 remaining in regulation with Bohatiuk scoring his second goal in as many games. After King's cleared the puck the length of the ice, the hosts were able to complete a change before senior Jordan Watt started the breakout and finding sophomore Christian Ripley up ahead. Ripley carried the puck into the offensive zone and sent the puck towards the net for Bohatiuk who hit a one-timer over the glove of Ferch.

Bohatiuk, who missed nine games before returning to the lineup last weekend, has three goals this season. Both Watt and Ripley have a point in three of their last six games.

The hosts finished 2-for-8 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill while outshooting King's, 37-14. The Mustangs also won 40 of the 63 face-offs with sophomore Dominic Brenza going 15-for-19.

Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, January 27 when the Mustangs host Manhattanville in a UCUC and MAC contest beginning at 7:00 p.m. With a win, the Mustangs can clinch the inaugural MAC title.
