Annika Schwartz Breaks Stevenson Kill Record in Sweep

FREDERICK, Md. – Stevenson University women's volleyball senior Annika Schwartz became the program's all-time kill leader in a MAC Commonwealth sweep of Lycoming College and Hood College at Hood's BB&T Arena Saturday afternoon.

Schwartz, who needed 13 kills entering the day to tie Avery Gabbard's career record of 1,369, finished with 15 in the day's opening win against Lycoming to break the mark.  She added 10 kills in the win over the host Blazers and now has 1,381 kills.

Stevenson (18-1, 4-0 MAC Commonwealth) extended its win streak to six, and improved to 44-0 all-time in MAC Commonwealth regular season competition.

Against Lycoming (8-8, 0-3 MAC Commonwealth), the Mustangs prevailed 25-10, 25-16, 25-21.  Schwartz hit .406 in the match and also finished with three service aces.  Junior Moriah Savage tallied 10 kills, while sophomore Katie Leftridge notching seven and three blocks.  Senior Deanna Bradbury finished with 11 digs, while sophomore Caroline Dangel handed out 14 assists and recorded eight digs.  Sophomore Julie Nightwine added 11 assists.

Stevenson hit .333 as a team, including .500 in the opening frame, while it held the Warriors to .118 hitting, which included a -.094 effort in the first set.  The Mustangs finished with 12 service aces, a season high.

The Mustangs recorded a 25-19, 25-14, 25-16 win over Hood (4-14, 1-4 MAC Commonwealth).  Schwartz hit .643 with just one error on 14 attempts while posting eight digs.  Leftridge, Savage and senior Lauren Weaver recorded eight kills apiece, while sophomore Victoria Prokic hit .714 and added six kills and three blocks.

Bradbury finished with 11 digs for the second time Saturday, while three sophomores all finished in double digit assists, with Dangel handing out 16, Nightwine 11 and Emily Castro 10.

Stevenson hit at least .355 in all three sets and hit at a .475 clip for the match while Hood hit .134 over the three sets.  The .475 hitting percentage was Stevenson's highest since hitting .488 against CCNY on October 6, 2012.

Stevenson plays the first of four straight home matches Tuesday night when it entertains Elizabethtown in a 7:00 non-conference match at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
