OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Visiting Salisbury University downed Stevenson 64-38 in non-conference women's basketball Tuesday night at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
Stevenson (1-2) was paced by freshman Olivia Coleman's eight points and six rebounds. She also had three assists, three steals and a pair of blocked shots. Junior Jonyae Curry tallied seven points, while sophomore Hannah Crist knocked down a pair of three pointers and added six points.
The Sea Gulls (2-2) got 18 points and seven rebounds from Paige Bryce, while three other players finished in double figures.
The Mustangs trailed 14-9 after one quarter and were down 20-16 with 4:20 to play in the second quarter following a free throw by freshman Alexa Sanmartin. Salisbury reeled off 11 straight points over the next 2:36 to increase its lead to 15, 31-16, with 1:44 left in the first half. The Mustangs pulled within 12 at intermission after senior Imani Sanders converted a layup as time wound down in the quarter.
Salisbury scored the first eight points of the third quarter to take the lead to 20, 39-19, before the Mustangs got on the board with 5:02 left in the frame on a basket by freshman Brandi Hall. The Sea Gulls held a 47-25 lead entering the final quarter and led by as many as 31 over the final 10 minutes.
The Sea Gulls shot 63.6% in the third quarter and 45.8% for the game while limiting the Mustangs to 27.5% shooting, including 4-18 behind the arc, while Salisbury was 4-11 from three-point land. The guests held a 39-33 rebound advantage and generated a 25-12 lead in points off turnovers and a 16-8 edge in second chance points.
Stevenson continues its three-game homestand Saturday afternoon when it hosts Stevens at 2:00 pm at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
