Box Score REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson men's ice hockey junior Jacob Caffrey recorded 35 saves as the Mustangs erased a 2-0 deficit going into the third period to finish in a 2-2 non-conference tie versus Fredonia Saturday afternoon at Reisterstown Sportsplex.
It was the third straight overtime game for the Mustangs (6-5-2), who were held to two or fewer goals for the sixth time this season. The team is 0-5-1 in those games compared to 6-0-1 when scoring three or more.
The Blue Devils (4-7-2) got on the board first as Jacob Haynes scored with 7:15 remaining in the opening period on an assist from Jimmy Morgan. The visitors held a slight, 10-9 edge in shots at the first intermission.
On the fourth power-play opportunity for Fredonia, Hunter Long made it 2-0 in favor of the Blue Devils as Stevenson was in the box for a five-minute major. Fredonia finished 1-for-5 on the power-play.
The Mustangs got back within one just 4:15 into the third period as freshman Alfred Panelin-Borg scored on the power-play on assists from classmates Mark Bowen and Dominic Brenza. Just 2:47 later, freshman Christian Ripley knotted the game at 2-2 on an assist from junior Doug Rose.
Fredonia outshot Stevenson, 37-22, including 12-4 in the second period. The Blue Devils recorded two shots in the overtime period while the Mustangs had just one.
Stevenson returns to action on Tuesday, January 10 when the Mustangs host an ECAC West conference versus Lebanon Valley beginning at 7:15 p.m.
