Box Score CANTON, N.Y. - Stevenson men's ice hockey junior Mike Davis recorded his sixth multi-point game and second multi-goal game of the season but the Mustangs could not overcome a four-goal deficit in a 6-2 loss at Canton Saturday evening at the Roos House.
It is the third straight loss for the Mustangs (8-8-2) who falls to 1-8-1 when being held to two goals or less. The team falls to 3-5-1 on the road this season and has been held to two or fewer goals in its last four away games.
The Roos (7-10-2) took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission after scoring with just over five minutes remaining in the opening period. Stevenson had two power-play chances in the opening frame, including just 21 seconds in, but managed just two shots on net.
Canton added three goals in the second period to build a 4-0 lead, including an score just 1:15 into the period. The hosts also added a shorthanded goal as well as a power-play goal. It is the sixth shorthanded goal the Mustangs have allowed this season.
Davis got the visitors on the board at the 8:23 mark of the third period on assists from freshman Justin Stelzer and junior Doug Rose. But the hosts responded just 3:14 later to extend the lead back to four.
Freshmen Jake Lainesse and Nick Bohatiuk picked up assists on Davis' second goal with 3:34 remaining in the game. The hosts added an empty net goal with 1:39 left in regulation.
The Mustangs outshot Canton, 38-29, including 16-7 in the final period.
Stevenson returns to action on Friday, January 27 when the Mustangs travel to face Elmira in an ECAC West contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
