Box Score ANNVILLE, Pa. – Freshman Cameron Hayes scored 22 points for Stevenson and classmate Mark Terrell added 13 points off the bench, but the Mustangs fell 82-68 at Lebanon Valley College in MAC Commonwealth men's basketball Wednesday night at Sorrentino Gymnasium.
For Hayes, his 22 points for Stevenson (1-6, 0-3 MAC Commonwealth) mark a career high, as well as the second time he has cracked the 20-point barrier this season. He finished 9-17 from the floor. Terrell posted a career high in the scoring column, knocking down all five of his free throw attempts while going 4-8 from the floor. Freshman Ben Wiebusch knocked down both of his three-point attempts and totaled nine points, while classmate Kyle Wooldridge added eight points and six rebounds.
Sam Light led Lebanon Valley (4-4, 2-1 MAC Commonwealth) with 29 points, while Andy Orr added 27 points and nine rebounds.
Stevenson trailed by one, 18-17, with 10:03 to go in the first half following a basket by junior Christian Collins, before Lebanon Valley gradually pulled away, using a 16-6 run to open up a 34-23 lead 3:34 before intermission on a Ricky Bugg layup. The Dutchmen took a 44-29 lead into the locker room.
The Mustangs did not allow LVC to pull away, staying within striking distance in the opening minutes of the second half. A basket by Hayes with 15:15 on the clock made it 51-38, but a 12-3 run by the hosts capped by an Orr layup at the 11:31 mark pushed the lead to 22, 63-41. Stevenson countered with a 14-4 run over the next four-plus minutes to make it a 12-point game, 67-55, with just under seven minutes left, but that is as close as the Mustangs got until a Hayes basket with 1:40 left made it 75-64.
Lebanon Valley shot 50.9% for the contest and took twice as many trips to the free throw line, going 19-26 while the Mustangs were 11-13 at the charity stripe. Stevenson shot 46.4% overall. LVC outrebounded the guests 33-28 and held a 20-9 lead in points off turnovers.
