Box Score HERSHEY, Pa. - The Stevenson men's ice hockey team scored three first period goals en route to a four-goal lead but Lebanon Valley answered with four straight goals as the Mustangs had to settle for a 4-4 ECAC West overtime tie Friday night at Hersheypark Arena.
For the second time this season, the Mustangs (5-5-1, 2-4-1 ECAC West) were taken to overtime after holding at least a two-goal lead as the team posted the first tie on the season. It was also the second consecutive game Stevenson has totaled four goals.
Junior Jordan Watt started the scoring with his second shorthanded goal of the season just 5:38 into the contest. Just 47 seconds later, Mark Bowen doubled the visitors lead with his second goal on the year on assists from Dominic Brenza and Bruce Stachitas.
It was the first career point for Stachitas who becomes the 18th player to register a point on the year.
Freshman Colin Woods made it 3-0 in favor of the Mustangs as he scored with one second remaining on the first power play attempt for Stevenson. Freshmen Christian Ripley and Alfred Panelin-Borg picked up the assists.
The Mustangs went up four just 5:19 into the second period as freshman Austin Swingle became the eighth player to tally a point in the game. Bowen and Panelin-Borg recorded their first and second multi-point games, respectively, with the assists.
The Dutchmen (0-7-2, 0-6-1 ECAC West) scored two even-strength goals in the second period to cut the deficit back to two at the second intermission.
A shorthanded goal by Cole Hepler got the hosts back within one with 9:33 remaining in regulation before Jared Karas knotted the game at 4-4 with just 37 seconds remaining.
The Mustangs outshot Lebanon Valley, 43-35, including 24-8 in the opening period. Stevenson finished 1-for-5 on the power play while killing off all five penalty kill opportunities.
Junior Jacob Caffrey finished with 31 saves in net.
Stevenson is off until after the New Year and returns to action on Friday, January 6 when the Mustangs host a two-game non-conference series versus Fredonia. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
