Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y. - For the first time in nine games, the Stevenson men's ice hockey team was held scoreless as Buffalo State skated away with a 7-0 non-conference victory Friday evening at the Buffalo State Ice Rink.
The loss was the fourth consecutive for the Mustangs (4-5) who allowed a season-high seven goals. The team, who was held to a season-low 17 shots, has been outscored 19-4 during the four-game skid while going 2-for-18 on the power play.
The Bengals (5-1-1), who are receiving votes in the latest USCHO.com Top 15 Poll, scored just 12 seconds into the contest while scoring three goals in the opening period. Jake Rosen and Hugo Petit each tallied two assists in the first period.
On its third power play attempt, Buffalo State made it count as Rosen picked up his third assist 26 seconds into the player advantage. The Bengals finished 2-for-4 on the power play.
Stevenson drew two first power play opportunities early in the third period, its second and third chances of the game, but could not convert. The Mustangs were 0-for-3 on the power play and are scoreless on their last 10 attempts.
After holding the Bengals to just eight shots in the opening period, the Mustangs were outshot, 31-12 over the final two periods, including 17-4 in the second.
Freshman Colin Woods won 10 of his 16 face-offs. In goal, junior Jacob Caffrey recorded 19 saves before giving way to freshman Dustyn Moyer who finished with 13.
Stevenson and Buffalo State wrap-up the two-game non-conference series on Saturday, November 26. Puck drops at 4:00 p.m.
