Mustangs Fall to Former CAC Foe York (Pa.), 2-0

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - In a statistically even game, the Stevenson field hockey team was shut out for just the second time this season as the Mustangs fell to former CAC-rival York (Pa.), 2-0, Wednesday evening at Mustang Stadium.

With the win, York (Pa.) improved to 3-0 at Mustang Stadium while posting its 14th win in the 18-game series while the Mustangs (2-7) drop their fourth consecutive game. Stevenson has totaled just two goals in its last three games.

Lindsay Nye gave the Spartans (9-2) a 1-0 lead on the first shot just 2:46 into the contest as her shot near the end line slide through the legs of freshman Kelsey Eure. Nye leads York (Pa.) with 14 goals this season and entered the week ranked eighth in Division III in goals per game.

The hosts answered with three penalty corners and two shots, but sent both shots wide. The two teams combined for 12 penalty corners in the opening half while.

On the first penalty corner of the second half for York (Pa.), Alexa Taylor played it short to Ali Posey who arching shot was heading into the net but Eure reached up to bat the shot away. Eure followed up with a save on the ensuing penalty corner before stopping Paige Taylor one-on-one.

Following yet another penalty corner by the Spartans, Taylor played it short again, this time to Kenidy Kubitz who ripped a shot from just inside the circle that blasted just inside the near post.

With 12:31 remaining in the contest, Stevenson pulled Eure in favor of sophomore Marissa Hoffman, who served as a kicking back. York (Pa.) was held without a shot over the remainder of the half, but the Mustangs managed just two more themselves.

York (Pa.) held a slight 12-11 advantage in shots while both team totaled 11 penalty corners. Eure finished with five saves while her counterpart Eve Hauptle recorded four.

Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, October 8 when the Mustangs travel to Arcadia for a MAC Commonwealth contest beginning at 12:00 p.m.
