Blackburn Scores Overtime Winner as Mustangs Defeat Neumann, 2-1

ASTON, Pa. - Stevenson women's ice hockey junior Natalie Rosendahl tied the game in the third period before assisting on the game-winning goal in overtime by classmate Chelsea Blackburn as the Mustangs defeated Neumann, 2-1 in overtime Saturday evening at Ice Works Arena.

The Mustangs (1-1) have won six straight games over Neumann and improves to 6-2 in the series while also improving to 3-0-1 in overtime since the start of last season.

For the second consecutive game, Stevenson allowed the first goal as the Knights (1-1) scored 8:12 into the first period on a goal by Bek Lucas. Lucas also scored Neumann's lone goals in the Mustangs pair of 3-1 victories last season while assisting on a goal in 2015.

Rosendahl knotted the game just 34 seconds into the third period as the Mustangs converted on a 5-on-3 opportunity. Juniors Monica Pozuc and Sarah Antonelli were credited with assists. Pozuc has tallied a point in four of her last five games dating back to last season.

It took just 29 seconds for Blackburn to find the back of the net in overtime for her 11th career game-winning goal. Blackburn has scored a goal in three of her last four games dating back to last season and has tallied a point in five of her last six games.

Rosendahl picked up the assists, marking her second career multi-point and first since November 28, 2014.

Freshman Annie Smyth-Hammond picked up the win in her first career start after totaling 22 saves.

The Mustangs outshot the Knights, 37-23 and finished 1-for-5 on the power-play and a perfect 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.

Stevenson returns to action on Friday, November 4 when the Mustangs travel to Becker for a two-game Colonial Hockey Conference series. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:20 p.m.
