Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Stevenson University women's volleyball team extended its win streak to nine matches with a 3-1 non-conference victory over Catholic University at the DuFour Center Thursday evening. The set scores were 26-24, 20-25, 25-14, 25-20.
Stevenson (18-7) got a match-high 17 kills from junior Annika Schwartz, while sophomore Moriah Savage finished with 12 kills on .417 hitting. Junior Lauren Weaver registered 11 kills and seven block assists, while freshman Katie Leftridge had a season-high nine kills. Freshman Victoria Prokic finished with eight kills and nine block assists. Senior Sara Bollinger posted 28 assists and seven digs, while freshman Julie Nightwine added 26. Junior Megan Hren notched 18 digs, while freshman Darian Hileman posted 13.
Catholic (19-6), which saw a six-match win streak snapped and had won nine of its last 10, was led by Amy O'Connor's 13 kills.
The first set was tied 24-24 with Catholic serving when Schwartz posted a kill to give the Mustangs a 25-24 lead. Prokic followed up with a kill of her own to close out the set and give Stevenson a 1-0 advantage.
Catholic jumped out to a 15-10 lead in the second set before the guests rattled off five of the next six points to pull within one, 16-15, on a Cardinal attack error. From there, Catholic countered with a 5-1 win to go up 21-16 and led by at least four points the rest of the way. In the third set, the two teams were tied 11-11 before four straight Stevenson points made it 15-11 on a kill by Weaver. The Mustangs posted the final seven points of the set and closed it out on a Schwartz service ace.
Stevenson gradually pulled away in the fourth set, opening up a 20-15 lead on a kill by Leftridge. A Bollinger kill closed out the match.
The Mustangs hit .283 for the match, including .420 over the final two sets on 69 attempts with just five errors and 34 kills. Catholic was limited to .162 hitting on the evening. Stevenson's 13 blocks were its second-highest total of the season and highest in a four-set match, while the Mustangs also finished with season highs in kills (63) and assists (61).
Stevenson hosts a quad match on Saturday, facing Stockton at 1:00 and Rowan at 7:00 at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
