Mustangs Sweep Albright for Eighth Straight

Box Score

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson University kept its perfect MAC Commonwealth record intact and upped its win streak to eight matches with a 3-0 women's volleyball victory over Albright College at Owings Mills Gymnasium Tuesday night.  The set scores were 25-19, 25-7, 25-16.

Stevenson (17-7, 6-0 MAC Commonwealth) hit .312 for the match and limited the Lions (5-12, 1-4 MAC Commonwealth) to -.054 hitting, as the guests hit negative in all three sets.  The seven points allowed in the second set is a season-low for the Mustangs and the fewest allowed in a set since a 25-7 third-set win over Widener in the conference semifinals last season.

The Mustangs led 7-3 in the second frame when they reeled off 14 straight points with senior Kristen Brooks serving to build a commanding 21-3 advantage.  Brooks had four service aces during the run, while Stevenson also had seven kills, three from junior Annika Schwartz.

Stevenson and Albright were deadlocked 6-6 in the first set before five straight points capped by a service ace by freshman Julie Nightwine gave the hosts an 11-6 lead.  The Lions got the lead down to three twice but got no closer and a Brooks kill closed out the set.

Schwartz had two service aces in an initial 6-1 run to open the third set as the Mustangs never trailed.  Stevenson held a 14-5 lead following an Albright service error before five straight points pulled the visitors within three, 14-11, following a Maddy Greth service ace.  The Mustangs recorded the next three points and never let the lead slip below five the rest of the way.

Junior Lauren Weaver had six kills while hitting at a .429 clip to go along with five block assists.  Schwartz totaled five kills and seven digs, while Brooks finished with four kills as a total of 17 players saw action.  Junior Deanna Bradbury had a team-high 11 digs, while senior Sara Bollinger had 14 assists and freshman Emily Castro 10.

Greth led Albright with eight kills and six digs.

Stevenson travels to Catholic for a 7:00 match Thursday evening.
