Fisher Reaches 1,000 in Convincing Men's Basketball Triumph

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Senior Erik Fisher totaled 23 points and 10 rebounds, scoring his 1,000th career point in the process, to lead Stevenson University (5-10, 3-3) to a convincing 76-58 win over Arcadia University (10-4, 3-2) in MAC Commonwealth men's basketball Saturday afternoon at Owings Mills Gymnasium.

Fisher needed just one point entering the contest for his 1,000th collegiate point and scored 25 seconds in on the first possession of the game to reach the milestone.  He also recorded his 1,000th point in a Mustang uniform with 9:10 to go in the second half.  Fisher finished 11-18 from the floor and also grabbed 10 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season.

Sophomore Sean Mayberry, who played at Arcadia last season, went 7-7 at the free throw line and 6-10 from the floor en route to 20 points, while freshman Korey Hayman Jr. registered 15 points and five assists off the bench, a season high in both categories, while senior Joe Kiely added 10 points and five rebounds.  Junior Ryan Hill grabbed 10 rebounds.

Ryan Kelley was was the lone Arcadia player to finish in double figures, as he totaled 23 points on 8-14 shooting, including a 3-4 effort behind the arc.

Leading 31-27 at halftime, Stevenson used an 11-3 run capped by a three by Mayberry to open up a 44-34 lead with 14:12 left in the contest.  Arcadia scored the next five points, with a Kelly three making it 44-39 at the 12:59 mark, but the Mustangs countered with seven straight, and a pair of free throws by Mayberry pushed the lead to 12, 51-39,with 11:42 left.

The Knights cut the lead to nine twice, the last coming on a basket with 10:36 left that made it 53-44, but seven straight Mustang points pushed the cushion to 16, 60-44, with 8:45 left on a Hayman free throw.  Stevenson led by as many as 20 down the stretch.

Stevenson used an 11-0 run early in the first half capped by a Fisher basket at the 14:13 mark to open up a 15-4 lead.  The Mustangs took their largest lead of the half, 21-8, with 10:37 left on a pair of Kiely free throws. 

Arcadia proceeded to outscore the hosts 19-6 over the next eight-plus minutes, tying the game 27-27 1:52 before halftime on a Kyle Reilly layup. Hill knocked down a jumper on the next Stevenson possession, and the Mustangs carried a 31-27 lead into the locker room.

Stevenson shot 54.8% in the second half and 50.9% for the contest while limiting the Knights to 36.5% shooting for the game.  The Mustangs went 14-16 at the free throw line while Arcadia was 7-10, and the hosts held a commanding 41-27 rebounding advantage.

Stevenson is idle until next Saturday when it travels to Alvernia University for a 3:00 MAC Commonwealth contest.
